This game and That Which Sleeps have me seriously excited for the future.
The best (not really, the best part is the fantasy strategy without compromise) part is that you don't need a supercomputer to play this particular future. It is great.

Me miserable! which way shall I fly
Infinite wrath, and infinite despair?
Which way I fly is Hell; myself am Hell;
And, in the lowest deep, a lower deep
Still threatening to devour me opens wide,
To which the Hell I suffer seems a Heaven.

It uh, costs more on their site than on steam(talking euro).

26 euro or 25 dollars from their site, I just can't wrap my head around this.

It costs more on Matrix's site. I wouldn't assume Matrix takes a smaller cut than Steam does, TBH.

Yeah, the best option is to buy it @ Steam...for me, it would cost $24.99 + $5.31 VAT on the Matrix site for example.

PS.
I've updated the OP. Now it's proper.  8)

I've been playing (what turned out to be) V 1.1 yesterday and noticed that naval combat is completely useless (defender always "wins" after 1 round and almost no damage is ever dealt) did they fix that in the new patch?
I did notice the AI doing better at fort defense- they hanged back and prioritized my siege weapon once it was in range to hurt the fort. A real improvement.

Hm....I wasn't messing around with the naval battles too much, IIRC I had like 2-3 naval battles so far...but it seems allright. Perhaps you've found some bug? You should post about this on the Steam forum.

Basic Update Roadmap

1) Conversion of game to OpenGL. This has been in progress prior to EA and is intended to streamline our infrastructure and improve performance. It will be the first big update. There won't be a lot of cool new stuff in the game on this one, but it will set the stage, and indirectly correct some of the text readability issues some players have had.

2) Lots of little fixes and communication issues we have in the UI. For instance, Charge doesn't show a path, and there's no reason it shouldn't. Numbers in the Health/Morale bars. That sort of thing. We have a long list of these fixes that many players have pointed out, and we'll clean these up to make the experience smoother. The cool thing here is that a lot of these fixes are fast, so you should see a lot of stuff getting fixed suddenly.

3) Battle AI. Sometimes the AI is too suicidal. It could have a few tricks up its sleeve. And it should play its Heroes.

4) Foreign Affairs Screen overhaul. This screen is list-intensive and hard to work with. It will get a full overhaul that is more visually intuitive.

5) New features. Fort building, random events, cool new stuff.

Players are also asking for more portraits, and we'll be fleshing out portraits along the way.

It's amazing how the AI manages to be both suicidal and over-cautious (but it does). Also, as of 1.2 it does play it's heroes.

Yeah. I am sure that they will fix it pretty soon.
Btw I just came across a nice Steam review. ->  http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197973725830/recommended/312430/
I couldn't agree more with the reviewer.

No income report, or anything that breaks down your finances
You can mouseover your treasury and it will give you the borad srokes of your income and expenses (how much you're getting from provinces and trade, or how much you're spending on prisoners and unit upkeep- that sort of thing) Could use improvement, but at least you know if you need to sell the family jewels.

Yep I know, that wasn't my review. :) What the guy has said is 100% valid tho, that is why I linked it. Anyway, indeed it should be improved as well, in fact all of the info panels could use more work later on. They should work on province management and on the AI in the first "content patches". [Btw yeah, the very first AI fix is working properly - the AI is using the heroes now.]

So... this is more or less dead now? Pity.
