I kinda wonder what will be the best nation in WoWS.
On one hand USA will most likely be the dominant force but on the other hand i assume they will make the russan ships far better than their japanese counterparts as revenge for Tsushima so they might end up as the best.

YES i'm not putting it past them.
Altho i must say WG was never nearly as blatant with favouring CCCP as Gaijin.

I suspect they'll make them all fairly equal and gloss over historical accuracy, in favor of making their arcade game more entertaining.

*cough*original KV*cough*

To be fair back wen it was introduced the tier gap was much larger so having a tank with that kind of firepower at tier 5 was not as insane... but even now the KV-1 is probably the strongest HT at tier 5 and its succestora sre pretty good contenders.
Also the KV-1s that pretty much made tier 5 medium tanks outdated compared to it as it has both speed and decent armor.

Got into the closed beta, a bit ago. First impressions:

The gameplay is quite nice. When you're in the heat of combat and avoiding torps, trying to keep your aim on point, dealing with frequent fires and flooding, keeping yourself well positioned, etc. the experience is very enjoyable. This is really important, because if the core experience wasn't enjoyable this game would have no chance of being any good, regardless of development time.

Balance is not great, but for a closed beta it's more than acceptable. If you've played games like World of Tanks, you really need to shed your idea of how much tier matters. In this game, values do not scale much with tier. For example, a tier 10 destroyer has about the same hitpoints as a tier 2 cruiser and a smaller cannon than any tier 1. There is a tier 3 cruiser with more HP than tier 8 cruisers. You get the idea. When you tier up, the traits that increase are often "secondary" ones, not primary traits like HP or firepower. Maybe you gain some more AA capability, or your turrets traverse much faster, or your rudder shift time improves. Things of that nature.

Visuals need some help, and I hope that they improve that as time goes on. The land in this game is completely barren, there are no trees or buildings or anything at all, just rocks. Textures are quite poor in general. Some effects just seem missing. No special effects like rain, night, big waves, or anything of that nature.

Not all the garage mechanics are in the game yet, but the ones that are in are done quite well. It slowly opens up new things to you as you play, so at the start you don't need to deal with stuff like equipment and crew training, which I think is a big improvement over tanks. There's also bots that you can fight against (with other players as allies) that make for a pretty relaxing newbie experience. They are good enough to challenge a completely new player, but not good enough to beat them. As you get better, you'll quickly outgrow them.

Game runs very well. I've never dropped from max framerate, but considering that there's not much going on as far as visuals go, that's not too surprising. Had a tooon of issues with huge load times and terrible stuttering until I took the game off my SSD, though. Not sure why it doesn't like SSDs, but it doesn't.

I like it.

I kinda was in alpha for a bit... but that NDA stuff prevented me from sharing anything with the community :(

Oh, and there ARE buildings. Well, not much of them, but still. And there are decent hi-res textures. The game looks really well on my GTX970 with the max settings.

Hmm, I'll have to keep a lookout. The only buildings I've seen in the game are in the port, the actual maps are completely barren. Granted, it seems like there's maps I havent seen, probably haven't gotten high enough tier ships yet.

Could just be different standards for textures. To me this is quite poor:

How often are you zoomed in that close?  My of my time playing any of these games (Wot, war Thunder, Robocraft, etc) is spent on the furthest zoom out.

That's max settings.

Not that often, but you see it often enough to notice. A lot of the camera views default to be super close, and there's not much to do early game other than look at stuff. Still, just because you're too far out to see doesn't mean it isn't ugly when you can!

My textures look like this:

Perhaps there are some ships that have worse textures than others...

P.S. You should send that screenshot to the WG support, i guess, so they can fix those little bits up.

Looked over everything in my port, the textures all look exactly like that. The only models with nice highres textures are the subsystems and guns, like what is featured in your screenshot. The actual hull itself's textures are just terrible.

My response to that? Beta. They're more concerned that it works and ironing out the bugs, and getting the tech tree finalized than looks right now

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.
