I think one of the things we should do is get a plant in our room. We can practice Biomancy on it, making some of the things we learned practical...

Maybe ask our teacher if we can watch her Biomance the plants. Would always help to watch an expert. If we show interest she may actively try teaching that.

We should definetly practice our fire magic alone but ask her where would be appropriate. We don't want to cause a wild fire..yet.

Over the course of months your skills with Fire magic have grown steadily in thanks largely to the effective teaching of your master. The worst of your difficulties in it's basic use is behind you, and you can now effectively manage basic feats of spontaneous fire and heat. It's somewhat easier to cast the more specific spells under your command, but until you become truly proficient those are just a crutch to aid you. You're no master of Fire-Craft, but you are passable, and would likely be considered worth calling a mage by most people. Saufelta still professes that she has much to teach you in either discipline, but that you've at least reached a level of competence that she would feel willing to trust you with small tasks. She also plans to soon have you learn the basics of light magic as well, as it is important to her work in the tower, which she would like your eventual help in.

Your combat training goes very well, partially aided by the assistance of your servant Alafard, who teaches you a greater variety of combat forms an helps you to tighten up your skills. You suppose that fighting any sort of skilled opponent in real combat would still be very dangerous, but that you should be able to hold your own against more unsure fighters.
Your work in the gardens goes quite well, and in preparation for your work in Biomancy you purchase a clay pot and transplant a local but otherwise useless plant into it. It's likely that the plant will become eviscerated by your experimentation, so you suppose it's a good thing that it isn't particularly valuable.

During your time in the libraries you change your focus from researching the scant information about Biomancy to the rather plentiful information about pyromancy and it's subschools. Mostly you develop a better grasp of theory, but you also learn a bit about the use of fire magic in conjunction with enchantment. Commonly fire enchantment is used in order to fireproof materials or create weapons capable of firing or becoming sheathed in fire. Enchanted items however, must have a great deal of power invested in them for any long lasting effects of significant potency, which can mean weeks of a mage's effort in some cases, months in others. Shortcuts are considered desirable, and can include draining the power from a separate magical item or creature, or by capitalizing on various phenomena meaningful to the magical discipline being drawn on.

...

At the end of your third month under her tutelage Saufelta gives you a potentially dangerous task. She wishes you to head into the swamps to the west, the very same ones that you passed on your journey to Ravok's Roost and the Tower. She gives you a list of plants and fungi she believes grow in the swamp that would be useful to her studies, and tells you that one of her own servants will go with you once you've made your preparations and left for the swamp. She tells you that there is no great rush, and that you are free to make lengthy preparations if you feel they are necessary. She even offers you a coinpurse with a little silver to help you buy any supplies that you may need.

Inform Suafelta that we want to desperately learn more combative spells to defend ourselves should the swamps produce a worthy opponent. We should learn a fire ball or fire bolt spell before going and buy some mosquito repellent for the three of us.

(us, our servant, and suafeltas servant)

Hooray for our first mission!

Well... I'm not particulary against doing the job right now. Still, those swamp people seem to be the greatest danger that we might possibly face, so I propose that we read up on them and what is known about their basic culture. Just in case - and really, not like this should turn out to be our last assignment into their lands.

As for supplies... we might want to ask what background the person coming with us will have. Or rather, what season was it again? If it is before fall, we just need thick blankets for the outside, but anything below zero °, and we might want to think about taking a tent with us. Well, a few months in this tower won't change the hardiness of a woodsman all too much. As in, we should be able to take a few nights of slight frost, but our companion possibly won't.

Well, we got "Fan of Flames" and "Fire Arrow". Not sure if that is enough combat capability. Guess learning something stronger first, couldn't hurt. Us, that is ;3

Tis Summer, and you vaguely know the servant she's chosen to accompany you, an herbalist by trade, who knows the territory.

We should ask him about the area and what to avoid and what to bring then.

-1. We've learned as much about fire magic as we initially wanted to (enough for combat fire spells) and we should now concentrate on biomancy, herbalism, and alchemy like we planned to.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

You spend some time making preparations, including brushing up on the history and culture of the nearby swamp people. They are apparently descendants of a single Tuathé clan. The Tuathé were the native human peoples of this land, who held council with and dwelt alongside the non-human creatures of this part of the world. The clan that the swamp people are descended from were mostly crushed hundreds of years ago by the foreign invaders who would eventually form the kingdom of Arfelt. The Tuathé of the swamps are a suspicious people who have little tolerance for encroachment into their territory, and actively maintain the ecology of the swamps, but they also welcome trade and news of the outside world, and have a mostly friendly relationship with the tower mages, some of whom are themselves Tuathé descendants. They are mostly governed by a coven of witches, who keep the peace between the swamp people and a group of harpies who roost in the area.

Suafelta's servant is a stiff but rather competent Herbalist about twice your age named Clenat. While speaking to her about the potential dangers you learn that she herself was born in the swamp, though she left at a young age. She tells you that the Harpies can be aggressive and bloodthirsty when it comes to outsiders, and are attracted by the smell and look of fire. It may therefore be prudent to either avoid fire altogether, or spend a few silvers on Crows-Bane, an herb which can be used to cause the smell of fire to be distasteful enough to harpies to keep them away. The two of you agree that the only insect repellent within your price-range is Yellow-Chew, an herb with only moderate effectiveness at keeping away blood-sucking insects when rubbed on the skin, more herb can be used to keep them at bay more effectively, but causes painful rashes. You may be able to process it into a more potent oil if you purchase enough of it, however it's relatively common, so if you wish to save a little money and time you may simply pick some on the way to the swamp.

Suafelta procures the use of a small cart and a Mule to draw it, and fills it with a number of clay pots of different sizes, so that if you find particularly valuable specimens you may transplant them with less risk. It's possible that the cart may cause problems when drawn through the swamp, but to your understanding there are wooden pathways often used by traders travelling through the swamplands. If however you choose not to travel through those wooden pathways it is possible you could leave the cart behind with someone to guard it as you make forays into the deeper parts of the swamp in search of valuable plant-life both mundane and magical.

Cross bane is a priority and the yellow-chew is secondary. We are much more susceptible to harpies than a few mosquitos we can keep away with fire. Although I'm sure we can get both.

After the purchases lets go quickly and get the needed plants.

Is there any way we could get an enchanted item that heats up with out creating light or smell?
