We should tie a rope or vine around ourselves and a tree when crossing to avoid getting carried off.
Some of our equipment might get damaged if we do that. If we decide to throw our stuff over the river, it'll get carried away if we get a bad roll. Let's just be safe and ford the river.

A little back tracking never hurt anyone.

Also GM can we get the info of Veila and Maegor in our spoiler? Info like health, food, and other stuff like that. No equipment or skills since thats just not useful right now. Oh and how far is the final destination after this?

I don't see why not in that case.

In that case we should do it by Veila first, then ourselves, and then Maegor. Veila's a girl so she'll naturally weight less and then we'll go since Maegor is basically a grown man with huge weight/muscle. Once Veila and ourselves are across we can combine our strengths to pull Maegor across. We'll each carry our own weight.

Thoughts?

I forgot to add this helps reduce the danger of the whole crossing a major river thing.

Also I wanted to repost this: "The directions within the book on the other hand are quite clear and concise: "Follow the river east for several days until it is met by another river and forks, if you have not already crossed it do so. Continue directly south across country for a week or so until a great road is found. Follow this road southeast until you come to the town of Wanderers rest. From there travel along the northeast road that curves around the marshland until it turns directly south, once you come upon the first roadside tavern after the road turns south, go directly east. Travel for no more than four days walk, and no less than two.Do all this and you will come upon a small town, and the rest you shall discover when you seek it."


1. The lines crosssed are the parts i THINK we just completed or are about to by crossing just now.
2. Going south (I hope we have a compass or expert start reader with us) and find a major road.
3. Keep going down the road until we find a town called Wanderer's rest.
4. Find a tavern and then go East. Keep going for like 2-4 days and we should find a small town...and hopefully this woman.

Fletch an arrow, paint it with the blood of an animal, fire it at a tree on the other side, then ford the river where it's more shallow. This way, we'll be able to tell if we got lost or not by looking for the arrow to see if we're in the right place. The blood is to make it more easy to see.

1d20 +4 (woodsmanship)= 23
Without needing to even use an arrow you manage to flush out catch and kill a rabbit. As you kill and gut the animal, you stain the fletching on one of your arrows with it's blood. With that done you take aim at a tree across the river and fire the bloodstained arrow. 1d20 +2 (archery)= 17
The arrow meets it's mark squarely, burrowing itself into the wood of the tree, though your companions look at you a little queerly after your success.

With that done you spend the greater part of the day doubling back and looking for a safe place to cross the river. When you find it you mention your plan to anchor each person crossing to a tree as an extra precaution. Unfortunately though you find no trees both strong enough and close enough to the ford for you to tie your rope to and still cross the river. Maergor however mentions that he is a strong swimmer, and that he believes he could haul either you or Veila out of the water by rope should the current prove too strong. Veila seems satisfied by that, and agrees to cross first, bundling up her possessions above her head as she crosses the river.
She seems to have little trouble, the water at it's highest reaching about halfway from hip to shoulder. As she begins to dry out on the other side, she shouts that the rocks on the bottom of the river are slippery, and to be careful. With that it is you next, and you nearly slip on just such a stone on the river-bed. Fortunately Maergor notices you lose your balance, and with a pull brings you back to your feet, allowing you to safely cross. At that you and Veila both take hold of the rope as Maergor ties it to himself, and he briskly crosses.

It takes you the rest of the day to reach the second river, so there you make camp. It is then, between the two little rivers, that you tell your companions what it is that you are travelling for. You show them the magic of the book, and tell them of the vague directions that the wanderer -who you suspect was a sorceress- left for you. You offer to share with them whatever secrets of magic you might glean from the book, and your friend Veila seems genuinely interested, though she cannot read the words. Maergor however explains he is not interested in works of minor conjuration, and that what what he's seen of greater works of magic in his lifetime leaves him unsettled by the seeking of yet greater powers. He seems more than willing to help you reach your destination, but explains that he will likely afterwards leave to make his own path.

What you see of this little river on the following day leads you to believe that while it isn't quite as wide, that it cuts deeper and faster into the earth. However with a little luck you find a place to ford after a few hours of searching. This time you do find a tree to tie yourselves to as you cross, and it's fortunate that you do, because the stronger current of this river makes crossing even at one of it's more shallow points a battle. You all safely cross however, and continue on your way.

With both rivers crossed you continue on to where the rivers join at the fork, now free to turn south. You also easily find and retrieve your arrow, little worse for wear. Maergor mentions that he remembers a village on this side of the river, not far from the river fork. Perhaps you could go there to find news, directions and supplies? He thinks that you could make it there by late morning tomorrow.

Part of me wants to say no and really wants to advance to where the supposed sorceress is. But directions may be helpful...

Leaning on to just follow our feelings though so my vote is to just continue on our way. We can easily find food close to the river like we've already done.

I really almost chose to disregard the village. We have all the directions we need, we're well-supplied, and the only things we have to trade are 5 candles and a silver coin. What I just noticed we don't have is something to carry animal pelts in, maybe a large sack. I reckon we can get such a sack in exchange for 5 candles.

Go to the village. Get news, directions, and trade our 5 candles for a large sack to carry pelts in. Have Veila make the trade.

Sure. We should ask mal to get 1 or 2 fish by the river if possible. We'll need extra food soon.

With Maergor as your guide you make for the village he mentioned, though not before you gather some river-roots and Maergor spears a few fish, enough food so that you won't have to deplete your supplies for one supper. You travel east and south for a time, and before long you set camp. Veila spends some time needling the large fisherman about how quiet he is, and Maergor charachteristically says little in response, though is clearly annoyed with the pestering of your friend. Veila in turn seems annoyed with Maergor refusing her the verbal repartee she enjoys so much.

1d20 +4 (prepared spells) -9(barely any magical training or practice)= 3
Your practice casting spells the last few days has still failed to produce results. You suppose this is to be expected, you've never heard a tale featuring a hero who mastered magic in a week.

When morning comes, as you begin to break camp and finish smothering the embers of your campfire a group of riders arrive at your camp, unnoticed by your party until they are virtually upon you. They are armed with axes and swords, and protected by shining helms, gauntlets, and greaves.They are adorned by colorful green and blue gambesons which are marked with the sigil of a shattered spear. There are five of them, and the lead rider waves and greets you immediately.

"Hail Travellers! We are soldiers serving Count Merran of the House Grey-Tower. We've been sent to the nearby village of Fish-Fork to gather men and supplies for an attack on the forces of BlackCrow, who you may have heard has captured a bridge and begun extorting travellers who seek to cross." The rider gestures north back towards the river. "Count Merran is a generous man, and seeks stout folk such as yourselves to join him in either capturing or destroying the bridge. If you join us in this battle you will be provided with equipment and coin, and you will be helping keep this side of the river safe from the likes of BlackCrow's Raiders."

Taking a moment to confer with your companions you learn that Maergor is agreeable to such an arrangement. Veila though offers more than the handful of words and grunt of approval of the tall fisherman. "We know little of the problems of these people, so caution may be wise. Still though it could be smart to make friends of those whose lands we travel through, and we could use the help they offer. I'm not eager for a fight, but if you choose it i will fight with you."
