I decide to ignore the dwarf's queasiness, as I have my own issues at the moment.

"I see what you mean, that thing is both terrifying and beautiful. I'm glad it's on our side, and not trying to eat us or something."

{You can try to ask it next time you see it. The dwarf probably knows what it means by "unhated".}

"It didn't start out that way. The magic-folk did something to it, messed with everybody's heads and made it start 'talking'."

"We should probably get going, it's not an easy walk."

[Amperzand]

{Additionally, I seem to have completely missed Fish's last two posts, like the inept GM I am. I doubt Murdoc will post again tonight, so here's the priest.}

You happen upon the priest, who has moved inside with the wounded, and greet him politely.

"What do you wish to know, wayward son?"

"Uhg..." I shake my head, seeming to clear my mind.

"Yeah, let's start walking. My head should stop hurting by the time we get there. Oh, and do you know what that thing meant by 'Unhated'?"

[Amperzand]

You set off through what appears, once, to have been a tangle of unpleasantly fungal underbrush, before several wildfires came through. It's beginning to grow back, though.

"Means it doesn't hate you, says the same thing about most everybody it sees. Given that its reaction to hating something is to kill it at all costs, I'm glad of it. Probably has something to do with what the mage-folk did to it."

[chaotic skies]

"Ah. So the fact that I'm not dead means I'm probably not it's enemy. And I'm guessing that whatever fire happened here was because of that thing?"

[Amperzand]

"The Skalewyrm caused the second big fire. The first one was a munitions explosion that killed another abomination out of the dark."

"I'd say we're halfway there."

[chaotic skies]

"So..It's called the Skalewyrm, and it set fire to a large part of the caverns. Was this other abomination similar?"

[Amperzand]

"Not particularly. It was a sort of lizard thing, made of solid diamond. A lot bigger, made this crazy dust storm that ate metal. Brought down our first staircase with it, the bastard. We'll probably want bits of the corpse for something, so you'll get to see it."

[chaotic skies]

"Okay then. I'm not going to be wandering around down here alone any time soon. Perferably never."

[Amperzand]

"Bah, it's likely safe enough for anyone dwarf enough to fight. Most of the creepy-crawlies smart enough to survive wildfire are dead after the thing with the zombies."

"And it would seem we're here."

You move forward a little more slowly, hearing the rush of water ahead. The two of you chop through some especially intact vegetation, then find yourselves on the lip of a ravine. The sounds of water seem to be from the bottom, but your lamps are too dim to reach the depths, or even the other side.

"This...This should do nicely. We're probably going to have to set up a minecart track however, as that was a decent walk, and carrying materials that long is going to be difficult."

I pull out my notebook and, taking a step back from the edge, start writing down materials.
