What the hell is mythic fantasy?
A term I picked up from the D&D 5E Dungeon Master's Guide. A world that is like that of myth and legend, where gods often take a very active part in the world and the acts of great heroes can change the landscape.

Alternatively, how about Pirate Fantasy?

Ah, that's pretty cool. Like Dawnforge.

Aw, I was hoping that this would be a revival of that one thing we yoink'd from /tg/, it was an interesting thought exercise.

At any rate, I've tossed my 2¢ into the hat for Steampunk. Proper steampunk, of course, not the 'fantasy with some gears glued on' that people pass off as steampunk.

Though the idea of mythic fantasy is promising as well; you could probably draw a lot of inspiration from Greek myths even if you weren't using a Mediterranean theme for the setting. Ovid would be a veritable goldmine of plot hooks for you to file the serial numbers off of.

I'd probably recommend against anything pirate-themed, though, since we've got at least half a dozen games here and in Play With Your Buddies using a piratical/nautical setting with the party as a group of assholes sailing around doing things already. That niche is pretty saturated, is what I'm saying.  :P

But you could totally get away with sky pirates or fantasy space pirates, 'cause spelljammers and expies of them are like geek crack.

<snip>

In all honesty, that will probably be the next step once we decide on genre.

Darn it. I leave for 6 hours and the thread gets locked. Science fantasy I guess.

I mean, I get why the thread was locked but why do I miss all this stuff?

I'm going for post-post Apoc.

Nobody has tried to do a 'after the scraps have successfully been picked up' world- i feel this could shake up the system.

What about a Post Lovecraft Horror Steam-Punk High and Low Fantasy World with a bit of Victorian and Gothic?
Sunless Sea, then?

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

I just hope we don't end up with some sort of horror.

I wonder if it would have been better to give everyone multiple votes (i'm thinking 3) so we could get a better consensus. As it is, things are pretty even right now.

I wasn't trying to mix a bunch of settings together, but

+1

Preferably the "horror" shouldn't be ridiculously grimdark though.

Yeah. Although my plans for the evening are utterly destroyed, I wonder what comes out from this. Wanna do something to pass the time?

Well done magitech is always good.
The best part is that there's even a ready-made excuse for why the caster/non-caster dynamic still exists: take a cue from Nanoha and make the inner workings (flavor or otherwise, depending on whether you're building a system or using an extant one in your custom setting) of the magic system incredibly maths-intensive. Plenty of people use magitech artifacts because they're user friendly point-and-click GUI shit, but only a relative handful actually make them or practice less/non-prepackaged magic because you've got to be either a savant or incredibly well studied to understand how.

It's basically Clarketech anyways, may as well help the two reach the center.

Darnit I voted for Mythic Fantasy without realizing Wuxia was there. Wait did we have multiple votes? If we did then I screwed up :(

I feel that we should have like a text adventure or minigames to pass the time waiting. Just my opinion though. I would like a bit of feedback on that idea, positive or negative.
