Decorated items

How can I tell jewel encrusted furniture from regular when placing it?  Also how can I tell dyed cloth/thread from undyed?

Decorated items will have << >> around their name. So a decorated copper pickaxe would be <<copper pickaxe>>

I'm not sure on dyed clothing.

To place a dyed bag you have to select containers as a building (presumably you know this, but whatevz), press "x" to expand the list, and then press "v" on the item you are considering placing and read the description of the item.  If the item is dyed the description will tell you, and then you can place that specific bag or rope somewhere within the fortress.
