Tycoon/Management/Building Games?
« on: February 07, 2015, 04:24:58 pm »

Any current-ish tycoon, management or building games that are good? I'm looking for something interesting to pick up and blow some time on :).

Have been playing Mad Games Tycoon and Factorio lately.

Well Prison Architect and Tropico 5 are the obvious current and big ones that might fit.
The sequel to spacechem is pretty much finished now but that's more puzzle than tycoon.

Other than those my mind is blank at the moment.

Game Dev Tycoon is fun for a while, but ultimately annoyed me enough to drop it (because of the way hit games were handled)

And it's a bit older than "last couple of years", but Capitalism 2 is currently on sale at gog and is still one of my favorite economic games ever.

Capitalism Plus is better.  The two are very similar, though.

Just if you consider capitalism - plus (1) is much better than 2. You will not find better economic game. But if you really insist on getting newer one go straight for capitalism lab (2 + cool stuff).

I have Mad Games Tycoon (Way better than Game Dev Tycoon). I have Prison Architect and Tropico 5 (love both). I also have Cap 2 LAB.

Game Dev Tycoon is a weird game...

One great hit can pretty much break the game over its knee because the money influx pretty much means you can stay ahead of the curve.

This is an extremely capitalist thing to say...

Prison Architect is pretty darn good right now, and has been getting regular monthly updates for a while now.  It still lacks gangs, but what it does have is quite impressive, and most of the noticeable bugs have vanished in their two "bug bash" months.

Any of the Caesar/Pharaoh/Zeus games.
Startopia.
Tropico.
Railroad Tycoon 3.
Any "Anno xxxx" game.

Really old games:
Imperialism 1-2
Trade Empires.
Patrician 3 (the newer games as well but they are kinda simplefied)

I don't think that's how it works. If I understand it right, well, spoilered because it really kind of ruins the game:

Check out this youtube channel for some cool videos related to 'tycoon' games.

His Tycoon News series is pretty awesome and he does some more in-depth looks at some particular games, too.
