Dwarf Therapist spilling the beans (kinda question)
« on: February 04, 2015, 07:13:25 pm »

I just found a vampire in a large migration wave, and although I was pretty darn sure she was on my own, Dwarf Therapist kinda put the icing on the cake.  The thing is.. I am not sure it really should have, and to be honest I kinda wish it had not done so.

In the wave I noticed a migrant who was a master mason (lvl 12) and skilled negotiator (lvl 10).  I then noticed the combat skills being level 9's and 6's across the board.  Then the typical 'Former member of" about 5 times.  OK.. pretty good give away.  Then I noticed in DT (dwarf therapis) the listed kill count.  It was 948 (943 Humans and 5 Dwarves)  Is there a feedback section anywhere for this plugin? It would be nice if we could make it only show kill counts that we know of for sure.. cause I doubt a vampire is going to show up in our meeting hall bragging about the 948 humans she sucked the life out of :)   Or is this a 'working as intended' thing?

I think that's how it's supposed to work, DT is meant to make the game simpler to play after all, it's essentially opening an omniscient screen that sees all the skills and dirty secrets of your dwarves, so she's really not going around telling everyone what she's done. Though to be fair, some of those are probably people who caught her drinking and not those she's drunk from (where do you think those combat skills came from?)...

If you don't want to know what her kills are then don't check on DT, its not really the mod maker's fault if you don't want to know something (I don't use DT much, so if there's a way to turn the killcount off I can't help you there). Though I'm not sure what you want to be honest, what do you mean "know for sure"? Kills that have happened at this fortress? Kills that left some kind of scar?

This is one of the reasons Dwarf Therapist takes me out of the game - while it was admittedly helpful in mass-assigning labor and understanding skill, the presence of an external window prevented me from falling into the wonderous "focus-hole" and playing for many hours straight.

I suggest using the in-game labor manager that DFHack creates. It functions similarly to DT and it looks and feels like a part of the original game (the day it gets added in to vanilla will be wonderous).

There's a big difference between a tool that overhauls a terrible UI and one that provides cheaty style information that would not have otherwise been available. Unless things have changed in the new releases, a vampire's true kill list is not normally available information where as just about everything else in dwarf therapist is information that is readily accessible to the player in vanilla DF assuming they don't mind spending 4 or 5 hours going through the cruddy interface to get it done for each one hour they actually play the game. It would be nice if there was a toggle in DT to turn off information that would not normally be viewable to the player.

This is a thread that really belongs in the mods forum, but you do make a good point.

You can turn off the display of kills in tooltips in the dwarf therapist options.

Go to the settings.  Uncheck "Show Curses (you're a dirty cheater!)".  This should be unchecked by default.  It used to be, but I noticed that was changed recently.

DT is in the modding subforum, hiding in the 3rd party utilities subsubforum.

I think there is no version yet that supports dwarf fortress 0.40.24. The current git-version should support dwarf fortress up to 0.40.23, but you'll need to compile it from source yourself.

Really, DF and Metal are practically the same. Drunkenness, Death, Depression, Depravity, Despondence, Demons, Dementia, Darkness. And thats just the D's!

The one I linked supports 40.24.  I installed it last night and it works fine.
