Wizardry Urist - The party of six
« on: February 01, 2015, 07:12:33 am »

So, I went and installed Wizardry 8, an old RPG from 2001 on my Laptop from 2014. It took me hours to get it to start up, but I've done it!

Which brings me on to...
Wizardry Urist!

"What is Wizardry Urist?" you may ask. Well, Wizardry Urist is a playthrough of Wizardry 8 with a party composed entirely of Dwarves.

We set out with a party of seven six Dwarves:

We have:
Two Swordsdwarves Fighters, Bomrek Oslanamost and Momuz Gamiletur.
One Marksdwarf Ranger, Adil Amamost.
One Mechanist Gadgeteer, Zuglar Nomalorshar.
One Mage, Mestthos Stinthadsazir.
And one priest, Kib Belkol.

This should be fun.

Strike the Earth our foes!

Ok, a bit of backstory: Our party was paid to be an escort for a Mook called Grimpak, who was sent to the planet Dominus to investigate a ritual called "The Ascension". However, the Dark Savant got to Dominus first and shot the party's ship down. Grimpak was killed in the crash and the party somehow survived and washed up on a beach outside an abandoned Monastery.

A very good question, Adil.

Oh dear lord, I haven't played this thing in forever.

Back then, since I didn't had Internet, I didn't knew you could import save from older game to get different things (not that many would be able to do that, since the gap between two games is LARGE).

The last time I played, I got stuck between Ascension Peak and a pack of fire ants.

The game is brutally difficult at times.

I'm hoping I can get further this time.

I couldn't even get past Arnika Road until I learned how to keep my back to the wall.

Holy crap, I love this game! It it literally the first (video) game I ever played!

Watching with interest. I just hope I can still do a "blind" LP of this at some point, if the forum doesn't hear too much on this.

Sorry about the lack of updates, I'm having issues running it on Windows 8.1 and Real Life keeps getting in the way.

I run a version I downloaded before anyone re-released the game, on 8.1. However, I don't remember the shenanigans I used to make it work. Are you using the steam or GOG version?

Neither, I have an original disk copy. It installed just fine, but refused to run. I had to download a no-disk exe and run the autoconfig before it would run at all.

Wow, I lost my discs a long time ago. If it still won't behave, you may want to get the steam or GOG version, since they're tooled to run on Windows 7-8.
