The beta for the Hivemind Wasps is out!



How Does Their Gameplay feels like?

Think of a mix between elves (lots of war creatures, extra uses for wood and generally nature themed) and kobolds (90% of the hive will be weak and frail, potentially very fast breeding, meat and leather are very important, play with poison) with some elements from warlocks (tinker with living creatures, give strange interactions to your guys) and succubi (exploit prisoners to grow your hive). Then add various forms of biological and chemical warfare and some themes from Alien, Skaven and the Tyranids.

They are aligned with the Savage faction (centaurs, kobolds, naga, werewolves)

There may be a few bugs lying around, but the most important ones have been fixed.

How To Install

Just Drag and drop in Masterwork/Dwarf Fortress and overwrite wherever it's required

Recommended Settings

-Workshops:Slaughterhouse, Herbalist, Potter, Furniture Shop, Brewery, Archeologist, Chandler (rendermax)
-Furnaces: Metallurgist, Kiln, Brazier(rendermax), Candlelabra,(rendermax),Fireplace(rendermax), Torchbearer(rendermax), Gem Of Light(rendermax)
-Harder Mining enabled
-extra reactions for vanilla workshops enabled

We're currently working on updating it to 40.xx. We are pretty close to updating our raw files, but we have to wait until the spawn unit script is bug free and the add minion/mount/pet/pull/pack to civ scripts have been updated.

Do you plan on adding icons for a tileset?  Also, do you have a suggested Masterwork settings for this race, to cut down on menu bloat/unintended game mechanics?

yes. heydude is working on adding icons. as for the recommended masterwork setting (thanks for pointing that out, I'll add it on the manual) it would be:

Thanks!  I'll be playing this tonight, and I'll probably be keeping up to date with the thread.  Love the idea of the mod, DF always felt like an insect hive, this just makes it play more like one.  Can't wait for them icons.

sure. apart from dfhack (addpettociv and such are not yet updated, spawnunit still has some issues and I don't know how the new reaction-trigger works) everything else should be pretty straightforward. gaits are the biggest difference in the creature file and weapons should need some new values, but it should be quick. but first I must study the new dfhack scripts a bit

I feel like modding in some more custom weapons for the wasps, anyone got any suggestions?

if I may suggest having nets as a weapon and ammo. Melee net "fires" throwing nets, which may have a small chance on caging a creature, but must use cloth, leather, rope, chain or string in it's construction. Is there any way to have a metal "Net" object that behaves like a cage? Eg, load a net into a cage trap instead of a cage, while also using it as ammo.


Apparently some of these are... getting the axe?

I feel like modding in some more custom weapons for the wasps, anyone got any suggestions?

I'm not sure wasps need custom weapons. I mean, they have striking weapons, blunt, sharp, ranged, melee, even oversized two handed ones. what they need is tiles and an update...

Also I think i will make a leather whip. It will basically be used for early militia and will only do light damage (how good would a leather whip be?)
