Wait, what's an ice giant?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_giant
(If you ask questions about common space stuff IC, it makes your character look ignorant of things they ought to know. Though I sometimes use different space terminology than the standard, so feel free to ask OOC, but IC the character should know about different kinds of planets.)

(Well, you made me think of Loki's ice giants for a while. I was like 'what', then realized you mean planets like Uranus)

"Wait... Wasn't the Dark Star surrounded by chunks of rocks and ice? This system has more planets than normally... Could Dark Star have influence on this? If it's older than this system..."

(Considering that right now our Solar System is the record holder at 8 planets, beating few others by one... 12 would be above normal standard, I guess.

Also, that's my theory as to why. It's a possiblity... right? )

((Well technically we have a buncha dorf planets. Three to be precise, and several gas giant moons that are planet sized.))

(If they're dorf planets, they're not planets anymore—just ask Pluto—bringing the count to 9. Still more than here.

Also, some of IRL moons are larger than Mercury, so that's a thing.)

((I consider dorf planets to be planets. Also these are aliens, who prolly have a different definition of planet then we do.))

The last transmission came from some point on the surface of the planet, though the signal suggests from a relay point of some kind. As they began turning the telescope around to look, the planet's tiny moon came into view, and through the scope they could see something huge clinging to its surface. A tremendous pile of spacecraft. Unmanned, judging by the features visible on the larger ones from this distance. As they trained the scope on it, they began to get some more resolution. Yes, checking the records, they recognized several of the large ones: unmanned probes. A humungous mass of probes, of all shapes and sizes. There were tiny, gravity-riding models with solar panels. There were behemoths with advanced, high-powered propulsion and maneuvering and the tell-tale radiatiors of full-sized fusion reactors. There were all the probes of the last few decades, to ones whose designs had to have been centuries old.

(Reaction? Shall the ship slow down to orbit the planet?)

"Ooh-hoo! How exquisitely disappointing. Unless there's some sort of thing at the center that's actually making this thing sentient."

Check signals. Are all of them coming from the Probosphere?

The ship flips around to reverse-burn, slowing it down into orbit around the small planet, and following the tiny moon on which the mass of probes rests at a relatively short distance. [Communication delay is now minimal]

During this time, the crew analyzes the situation, observing but making no response. The signals seem mostly to come from the probes, but there also seem to be relays of some kind on the planet below. Indigo pays close attention to the features of the probes. Aside from point-defense lasers of several grades, they do not appear to be armed, but in the event of a battle they would have an immense numerical advantage. There seems to be several thick bunches made of what looks like gold weaving throughout the structure, connecting the probes together, but the possibility of them moving as thousands of discrete vehicles, as opposed to a single giant mass, cannot be discounted.

As a whole, they seem to be silent now, awaiting further communication, but one of the larger probes transmits (in only 3 of the dialects, as opposed to earlier messages) the following:

Are you ready to join our congregation?

((I am -so- late. Sorry everyone. :-\
Also @Hugo, probably edit the OP with the collated player-character list? I'll send you a PM of the compilation.))

Sera was busied throughout the whole trip within the medbay, ensuring the efficiency of the facility was up-to-date in maintenance, in case of failure, atmospheric conditions, or otherwise. This extensive period of mechanical sustention took most of her time, and led to a lacking time in socialization with the rest of the crew, until now.

I feel like this means something forced. Issue a question back to them, maybe? How does one join the congregation? The message does not seem hostile.

((So there's this another long break, but at the same there's this rather heavy* book I have to read...

*Trilogy worth about 1200 pages. The longest compulsory read before it was maybe half that, I think... I may or may not appear here for a longer time.))

The astronomer tries to check what exactly can be learned about the planet.

"Would anyone of us even survive within the atmosphere, without any environment-sealed suits...?"

((I don't recall any specifics, barring you saying we can ask for them.

...we can do this thing right now, right? Also, I had to look up what the hell the word congregation means. GG luman on hitting me with a word I've never seen before; though technically English is my secondary, so does it count?))

The planet is far too small to sustain a notable atmosphere.
