back in the aftermath of the Great Fanfiction Wars of 2012 my fanfiction was described as "the best thing to come out of this scandal" by a fanfiction scholar whose name has been lost to time

Wait, I vaguely remember something back then. Was it that one thread where they made a shipping grid of the entirety of Bay12?

All I remember from 2012 is moving from the upper boards to this one and the penguins. That said, I am interested in hearing more.

Part of me wants to join in with this, but the rest of me both realizes that's a terrible idea -- I've been reading fanfiction since the late 90s, with all that entails on the front of encountering horror -- and the sad fact that all the truly worst fanfiction violates forum ToS. Ear-shattering screams of existential horror comes only from erotic fanfiction. Of which mention or linking violates the forum rules, so... oh well...

... still, if you're looking for some good fun, step away from FF.N. AO3 (Archive of Our Own) has some nice stuff these days. Mediaminer was another, as well as good ol' fictionpress, FF.N's original fiction sibling (which should probably count -- they tend to be in the same spirit as fanfiction, after all). Then there's... all the other stuff.

AO3 in particular has tags. Should really help dig stuff up.

The actual text has been lost to time, but when I was... eleven or so? I wrote a fanfic titled Hylian Idol, in three parts. It was a crossover between American Idol, Legend of Zelda and AdventureQuest, with cameos by Pokemon and real-life bands Guns N Roses, Franz Ferdinand and Iron Maiden. I wish I had the text, but it's many hard drives back and the website that hosted it is permanently offline.
