If the 'pay less taxes' thing is what I'm thinking of, then that just means they pay less... this year... they still have toi pay next year... So, they pay the same taxes, just not immediately.

I personally never understood delaying things like that *shrug*

You would think so! But actually tax payments are bracketed, which means you pay a larger amount of taxes per dollar the more you earn. So if they keep their annual income under a certain amount, they'll pay less taxes total. When you're making earnings of more than a billion dollars, this is pretty significant.

They are releasing games this year, but that was also true last year. The taxes angle is BS. If they have the money to sit on a game and pay employees through a year for no other reason than taxes then they're charging too much for their games.

Taxes aren't the only reason to try and move a major income infusion from one quarter to another.  Stock holder interest could be a reason, or by aiming to make more money this year the higher ups could be angling for a bigger bonus at the end of it (or the next quarter or how ever they do it).
