I'm not really sure what you're trying to say, but if you're saying what I think you're saying, Lincoln was about a foot away, unguarded, and still when Booth shot him. Whereas this guy's plan was to snatch a gun from a cop on the other side of a room and shoot Trump; who is physically protected by half a dozen secret service members who've most likely seen the commotion, in the miniscule window of time between getting the gun and getting rekt by the officer whose gun he just wrestled away. The odds of even a highly skilled person managing that are... not excellent.

Sandford then said, according to the filing, that he drove to Nevada from California with the purpose of killing Trump after seeing reports that he would be holding an event in Las Vegas.
According to the report, Sandford was arrested after attempting to grab the officer's gun, saying that he thought the holster was unlocked.

This is actually a pretty good example of a violent crime being thwarted by lack of easy access to a firearm. Really trumps that candidates pro gun argument, he was saved by California's gun control.

Well, he didn't exactly manage much. Also, y'know. US. I think a good chunk of us just kinda' assume there's some number of nutters sincerely plotting to kill one politician or another at all times. It turning out one actually tried is just sorta' eh. Especially considering how unspectacular the attempt was.

In a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Nevada by a Secret Service officer, a man named Michael Steven Sandford was charged with an act of violence on restricted grounds at Trump's rally at the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas.

The filing cites a Special Agent Swierkowski (his first name was not given), who said that Sandford had said he had lived in the United States for one and a half years, arriving in Hoboken, New Jersey, before going to the Ontario/San Bernardino, California, area. According to the report, Sandford was carrying a driver's license from the United Kingdom.

Sandford then said, according to the filing, that he drove to Nevada from California with the purpose of killing Trump after seeing reports that he would be holding an event in Las Vegas. After arriving in Las Vegas last Friday, Sandford said he went to a gun range to learn how to shoot a gun, which he said he had never done.

According to the report, Sandford was arrested after attempting to grab the officer's gun, saying that he thought the holster was unlocked. The man also said that he would attempt the same maneuver again and had been planning to attempt to kill the candidate for more than a year "but decided to act on this occasion because he finally felt confident about trying it."

Trump hasn't tweeted anything about this yet as far as I can tell. Who wants to take bets on whether he accuses Britain/MI6/The Queen of sending an incompetent assassin to try to take him out?

Uhh isn't that against the right to bare arms?

I can think of a LOT of places that would love to be gun free but aren't legally allowed to ban guns from their establishment... Bars for example.
-I have a feeling, those laws changed since I last saw people intentionally walking into them with assault weapons in protest.

Then again schools are also gun free zones... (unless your a student, then they are required for protection)

No, the government can restrict guns in many places. For example, guns are illegal in public schools, whether or not the owner has a concealed carry permit. AFAIK, guns are also illegal past airport security or in airplanes unless you happen to be part of the TSA.

It was a harebrained plot.  The Secret Service deals with something like three plots a day to kill the president or a nominee during election season.  It's surprising that it got this much attention.
