My experience was mainly in applying for college scholarships, along with my brother.  Neither of us got anything and we would have had far more options, including from the government, if we were minorities.  (My brother got a loan, which is assistance of a sort, but not a scholarship.  And the student loan system is horrendous of course...)

Also, their shit is still being fucked up.
So banks and the Home Owners Loan Corporation were unwilling to extend mortgages to poor, often minority communities (the linked page mentions "disharmonious").  Sounds like a combination of:

1) Banks threw away profits to support racism
2) Banks threw away profits by jumping to the wrong conclusion
3) Banks rightfully concluded that the loans were dangerous investments

Companies with expensive agendas like 1 are hurting themselves competitively and in the public opinion.  Look at Chick fil a.
Companies are usually smarter than 2.  They have famously well-paid analysts and executives looking to raise profits at any cost.
It's not racist to avoid a crime-filled area, or avoid investing in an impoverished area, just because the area happens to be racially homogeneous.

Of course it's a vicious cycle, though, these areas were further harmed because they were already in trouble.  The government's *supposed* to help prevent that, but sounds like it was basically complicit with this stuff (until it put a stop to it).

That, too. When I was applying for such things, I would have received plenty if I'd submitted my race as American Indian (I technically have enough Indian blood to qualify despite being extremely white, and my counselor filled out the paperwork that way initially, but I wasn't raised in the situation those benefits are meant to address, and it's purely a blood connection through a couple of great-grandparents so I didn't feel like it would be appropriate to do so), but as it was I got bupkis. That's less of a concern for me, because most of those scholarships are private institutions formed for the express purpose of giving a specific historically shoved-down group (in this case Amerindians) a leg up.

Hey guys, here's a fun game.  Preface every one of Orange Wizards posts with "I'm not racist but..."
What does this even add to the discussion aside from implied name-calling?

A fair point.

This is why you hear so many things like "if you intellectuals don't like it, I don't give a shit. There's a lot more of us common folk then there ever will be of you", and a big reason it is so hard to sell a lot of ideas to Flyover Country.

Oh wow, look at this elitist here thinking he can speak for real america.  He is part of a cultural group that earns more per hour, gets more education and gets more opportunity?  Yet here he is trying to tell other people how they are supposed to think.  How about you take your elitist privilege and go piss off to your Ivory Tower, Lord Shonus?

I think he was just being sarcastic.

If a parody of poe's law was existentially possible, this forum is getting pretty damn close to that event horizon.

Yes sarcasm but there's also the fact that well... racial excuse making is a very elitist thing.  It's always the social elites who are spouting the bullshit excuses of "I'm not racist but..."

Look today at Trump supporters.  The candidate of white racial resentment.  Real lowbrow stuff right?  And yet...
Average Trump supporter median income: $72,000
Average Clinton supporter median income: $61,000
Average Sanders support median income: $61,000
Average American income: $56,000

But honestly, why should this surprise us?  The man was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and bitches about how the government helps immigrants, i.e. the very poor.

Casting the desires of the elites as some sort of populist message has a long tradition in American history.  Go back to the Vietnam war and people act like it was all about the well to do hippies that opposed the war.  But Martin Luther King wasn't shot while talking to hippies about ending the Vietnam war, he was killed while preaching his message to a poor audience.  It was the populist candidate's supporters who rioted in '68 against the support of the war.  It was the candidate of the wealthy who kept the war going after the election.

Or go back even farther.  It wasn't the rich people in Atlanta or Richmond who refused to fight a war to preserve slavery.  It was the people in West Virginia, East Tennesse, Rural Texas.  The elites went along with bullshit about states rights and how it was best for the slaves.  The poor people saw it for what it was, a bunch of asshole elitists.

Heck go back to the start of this country.  You have Pennsylvania which was pushing towards universal suffrage really early on.  It's not coincidence that they were the ones moving early towards emancipation and decent treatment of the indians.  Meanwhile you have the southern legislatures fighting tooth and nail against popular suffrage while they did everything in their power to mistreat the indians and they kept blacks in chains.

Yet people who take the storyline hook line and sinker from the rich elites will delude themselves into saying that they are the common man.

Not really news, but Clinton has apparently conceded. Emphasis mine.

Straight from the horse's mouth.

Quote
The corporation [BBC] said: "As the Sun knows and has ignored, these are not jobs but training and development opportunities permitted under the Equality Act and to describe this as anti white is utterly ridiculous and irresponsible.

"As we have an under-representation of people from ethnic minority backgrounds in script editing roles at the BBC it's the right thing to do."

I'm not understanding what the issue is with an "under-representation" of "ethnic minority backgrounds" in script editing. The fear that too many non-minorities working on writing scripts will lead to racist scripts? Minority groups won't be able to relate to the content unless there's a token amount of people belonging to that group who are involved in the script writing? Isn't that suggesting that there's inherent differences in how different racial groups think? I thought it was racist to suggest that different races are mentally different.

If the population of a region is, say, split between 70% blue people and 30% green people, why is there a problem if the region's news business has fewer green people applying for work/training and fewer green people involved in writing scripts compared to blue people?

Maybe the time when presented with a hypothetical candidate who was equally qualified you leapt to the assumption that certain people are going to be less qualified?  If your brain immediately jumps over the "equally qualified" people part then it's probably taking a certain shortcut...
My assumption was that "equally qualified" is unlikely, and that certain demographics are less likely to be qualified in certain areas.
I did accept that using random numbers or whatever from a shortlist is fine (though kinda silly) but in many cases you're still going to find that certain groups are very underrepresented. And that's not a bad thing?

Just because I talked about you in the context of racism and making preemptive judgement doesn't mean you can just label me like that.  What are you?  The Political Correctness police?

Suggesting that an opponent has any chance of winning seems like a bad idea. It's like a sign of weakness, by suggesting that Clinton doesn't have complete confidence in herself to win.

I do not like random numbers approach, I like it when people have to actually compete

Lol did you see that one where a black billionaire's son started wreking statues cos he was oppressed? Narrative control m8s

The secret here is that social elites still can, case in point being like Malaysian elites who weren't allowed to stay in the same hotel as whites in South Africa despite being many times higher in social status during apartheid
