So if your mom gets breast cancer and cannot work anymore, she should just lay down and die, because she can't provide anymore with her own sweat and blood?

She has family to care for her, right? She should have health insurance too, and savings. People like that are easily able to take care of themselves if they put a bit of effort it instead of lounging around and expecting the government to help them.

Most of the world also has people who's family situation is fairly screwed up too. I don't bother much with retric about what people deserve or don't deserve. Plenty of countries have a strong social security system and do just fine. To me it's preferable to have a system in place that helps you out when things go wrong. Certainly prefer that to the alternative.

Of families helping themselves? It is no wonder Americans have falling birthrates if they seek to make the state their family

They're very good at weaseling their ways out of insurance payouts. It's what the industry is all about. Maybe some other countries have better regulated insurance companies, but in America they seem to pull this shit off all the time.

As for the "savings" part - the median adult wealth in the USA is $45,000. It's $220,000 in Australia. And with the extreme cost of healthcare in America, plus the downright evil and crooked health insurers, the "average person's" life savings isn't going to pay for much actual medical care. Maybe the family can help out, but the median household income in the USA is about $50,000, compared to $140,000 in Australia. Even worse if anyone in the family needs timeout to care for them.
