Many progressives will still be frustrated with the glacial pace of change

Whereas they will be delighted when Sanders introduces a healthcare bill that dies in committee?
Last I checked, Presidents don't introduce legislation.  ;)
And if his allies introduced something that Congress never even brought to the floor, then I would expect Sanders to make hay of that and not stop until they did.

Oh baby, Trump going for the double skip. Not that anybody had ever done the single skip before, but setting new records here.
No major candidate who has skipped two debates has ever LOST before. Trump is in like Flynn, baby.

Well, Perry skipped half of one debate in 2012, but that was legitimately because he needed to get back to Texas to deal with a firestorm emergency that was going on at the time. Nobody bashed him over it AFAIK.

Obama has named Merrick Garland as his nominee to replace Scalia.

Your move, Republicans.

EDIT: Apparently, this guy is the blandest, most inoffensive, most middle-of-the-road pick possible. He's daring the GOP to make themselves look stupid(er) by throwing a tantrum over this nomination.

Obama did say that he was trying to pick a consensus pick, or someone who is as moderate and neutral as possible. Which honestly is a lot better than making the court back to where it was.

And yes, Republicans.... your move....

Edit: He just mentioned that Merrick Garlands name has come up from Republicans as well as Democrats, so, yeah.

Obviously, they'll make up shit about him being a liberal commie-nazi hippie when they do kick up that fuss.

He's also a very 'by the book' person and has worked under a previous SCOTUS justice who was a conservative I think.

So, they'll make their move pretty soon.

Quote from: Merrick Garland wikipedia page
Garland received a hearing before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on December 1, 1995.[12] However, his nomination languished under the Republican-controlled Senate until after the 1996 election.

That's a worrying precedent. :p

He apparently has more experience on the federal circuit than any other nominee, ever, and was even suggested by a Republican senator from Utah both after Scalia's death and after Stevens retired. He graduated from Harvard. He did pro-bono litigation for poor people.

He is the most absolutely unrejectable candidate ever, yeah, Obama is definitely trying to make them look unreasonable if they cause trouble.

It was still republican controlled in 1996, and it was over whether there was even a need for another judge on the DC circuit court.

Also, Kelley Ayotte said that the republicans should keep blocking, but lets see what McConnell says.

So a liberal president and a conservative Senate yells a lot and the results is a moderate, qualified candidate? Well, it's not everyday one gets to see the US government work smoothly. :)

More like Obama did the smart move and picked someone as moderate and centrist as he can find since the Republicans expected him to pick someone liberal. Not sure if you realize Sheb, the main reason why the Republicans are making such a fuss over it (besides the whole 'we hate Obama' deal) is because the balance of the SCOTUS is at stake right now. Currently four of them are liberal, and four are conservative.

EDIT: McConnell is stubbornly sticking to what he said he would do, and invoking the 'Biden Rule' on the democrats.

edit2: apparently what Biden had said years ago is coming back to bite the democrats in the butt. How long before the democrats invoke the 'McConnell Rule'?

What is the "Biden Rule"?  For those of us who haven't kept up with every stupid thing he's ever said.
