Because if Kasich or Cruz wins the nomination, Hillary will be our new president, no fucking contest.

Pretty strange to hear this as the conventional wisdom is that Kasich is a far stronger general election candidate then Trump or Cruz.

Agreed. Kasich has been consistently polling the best head-to-head against Clinton and Sanders. Though as I've heard you say many times, those polls are meaningless. Because otherwise you have to admit that Sanders is a stronger general candidate than Hillary.  :P

I'd vote Kasich over Clinton in a heartbeat.

Not really so much a matter of the polls as a matter of he doesn't have huge negatives.  He is a mainstream republican in an election where a mainstream republican would expect to have a slight advantage over a mainstream democrat.

As symbolized by the fact that someone who likes a socialist candidate just said he prefers the man famous for busting unions and restricting abortion access.

I would also vote Kasich over Clinton if the fates RNC somehow conspired to make that happen.  But then again I'm from Ohio.  I'm afraid if Trump wins and they build the wall they're gonna try to build one around Cincinnati next.

After a great deal of research over the course of the past nine months, I believe that I can accurately project the outcome of this race. Upon winning the Republican nomination, Donald J. Trump will step forward and remove his mask, revealing himself to have been Hilary Rodham Clinton the entire time. Enter the true Trump from right of stage, dressed in a Hilary bodysuit and holding a guise of familiar profile in his offhand as he approaches the podium to shake Clinton's hand, and announce their partnership as president and vice president respectively. At this point, their shall be clone troopers rappelling from black helicopters to ominous organ music, as ISIS completes construction of its first space elevator in the background.

Trump has massive popular support.

And massive popular disapproval.  It doesn't matter how hard people pull the lever, what matters is how many people pull the lever.

If Kasich were the nominee, Hillary may as well already start getting her mail forwarded to the White House.

Kasich is a mainstream republican.  In every election in the recent past with a mainstream republican (for instance 1968-2012) the mainstream republican has been competitive.  In particular the last four races have been very competitive and very repetitive.  This is what the theory would make us expect.  The economy is a strong predictor of voting behavior in competitive elections, not just in the United States but worldwide.  The American economy is considered about 50-50 chance of being seen as a good economy or a bad economy on election day.

So, about a 50-50 race according to the method of looking at the past.  You can ignore past experience if you want but that's not how I roll.

Ahh, the joys of being an independent. I'm not beholden to any one ideology.

I'd like to see change. And if we're going to change as a country,  I'd like to see the kind of change espoused by Sen. Sanders.

If we're not going to change, then I'd least like us to go back to a stable, civil status quo, not the "Political Cold War" kind of status quo that we've had.

Clinton is the worst of both -- status quo dressed up as change. Many progressives will still be frustrated with the glacial pace of change and the continued widening wealth gap and rampant capitalism, while Republicans will froth apoplectic at the mostly decorative changes Hillary would make on social issues.

If Kasich was the nominee with a sufficiently graceful bow out by Trump, I could see Clinton being in for a pretty competitive race. I wouldn't vote for the guy in a heartbeat, mostly on abortion issues, but I think that it I'd probably decide on him and actually even vote to boot.

Whereas they will be delighted when Sanders introduces a healthcare bill that dies in committee?

Lol, Calvin and Hobbes is funny.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/03/politico-breaking-news-trump-says-he-will-skip-mondays-fox-news-debate-220854 His loss... Though I'll give him a bit of a benefit of the doubt as I thought it might be the last one as well. Or maybe he is superstitious on the number 13.

On Kasich and stuff, I've heard that no republican has won the nomination, or maybe it was the presidency, without winning Ohio. I'm not sure if that applies to the primary, the general, or both. In any case, this has been the year of breaking conventional rules, so, perhaps that 'rule' could be broken this year.
