I will say that quite a lot of people do seem to believe that, and not just on these forums.

If nothing else, it will symbolize a leftward political shift to elect him at all, one badly needed in the world of the calm, deliberate neoliberal consensus about how we should all join hands and shut up while the world gets fucked. There needs to be shocks to get us out of it, and I'd rather they come in the form of political shift rather than any number of others that will be joined with mass deaths. And that sure as shit won't be accomplished by Hilary Clinton.

Outside of that, the man is a veteran senator who survived as both an independent and a publicly socialist politician. Even for Vermont, I consider that a mark of someone who knows how to operate.

That's a misleading number. Most of it is the 15 trillions for the single-payer healthcare system, and that's not new spending as much as rerouting already existing health insurance payments through the government.

Looking into it, that 15t is... not something sanders proposed. So we don't actually know if that's what sanders is proposing. He also hasn't actually said what his proposal is for health care, only that he'd like to see a single payer system and, as the picture noted, they just took the 15t number from some random proposal someone else made. So, uh. The articles are outright lying out their ass.
