Dred Scott was a decision where the Supreme Court found that a slave who had traveled to free states was not only not a free man, but he was also not enough of a person to legally sue.

Obergefell v. Hodges legalized gay marriage in this country recently.

The quote was something like, "the decision on gay marriage is as much settled law now as Dred Scott was settled law in Lincoln's time." And then he went on to suggest that states should pass laws in defiance of the Supreme Court's decision.

Dred Scott, for anyone that doesn't know, was an 1857 Supreme Court decision that said no African American could be a citizen.
