Oh hey, found a revised schedule of the August 6th debate while looking for the democratic debates (they haven't scheduled them yet apparently:

http://www.2016presidentialdebateschedule.com/2015/07/fox-news-expands-the-early-debate-on-aug-6-to-include-more/

5pm ET – Lower tier debate (Candidates outside top 10, 1 hour)
9pm ET – Upper tier debate (Top 10 candidates, 2 hours)

TBH, I think they should get two hours like the top 10, just to be fair.

I am just trying to be fair, that's all :P

Why must California be so far back? We have 55 electoral college votes FFS. Though I guess it makes some sense to leave a big one further back to act as a 'tiebreaker' or a 'breakout' state.

IIRC, primary dates are set by state legislatures. Traditional reason has probably been that California is so large that it takes extra time to get everything prepared and ready.

Which would explain why small states like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina are so early in the process and wield disproportionate influence on the outcome.

Last cycle, there was a flurry of states trying to move their primaries up in an arms race of sorts, to have greater primary influence. Both national parties basically told states that if they tried to jump ahead of the Holy Three (Iowa, NH, SC) their delegates would be halved or even forfeited.

The whole system is archaic as hell anyways.

EDIT: Apparently, I'm not the only one who had a mega-facepalm reaction to that "Trump is like one of us" quote. Though he cites the respondent's name as Jane rather than Janet. In which case, I think Dan Akroyd said it best.

Noted wizard Nate Silver has given us yet another great summation quote for this campaign season:

Donald Trump is the Nickelback of GOP Candidates

So yeah, my Mom is voting for Trump.

She has a fairly solid reasoning for it too (though I'm sure someone will find fault with it) basically Trump is a ruthlessly pro American businessman, and thus has a chance to care about improving the economy more then the assembled other fucktards (because they are ALL fucktards, each and every one)
She also has the "he speaks the truth" weirdness, but the above is the core of her reasoning.

Thing is, running a corporation and running a nation are jobs that have only the barest resemblance. The United States government isn't supposed to turn a profit, for the absolute most important factor.

Alternatively stated "How you grow the economy is just as important as how much you grow it by." Increasing corporate profits doesn't necessarily translate into a more successful economy.

Sure, but the current running of the nation and the running of a nation have only  the barest resemblance too. I'd be cool with voting for someone outside the system, assuming they were actually reasonable and competent

Yes, but he's a poor businessman. He's filed for bankruptcy several times, just lost every single show that he had on network television, and his casinos aren't doing well.

The only reason he just lost every show that he had was due to his mouth, which alone doesn't imply being a poor businessman.

As it is, with his really low favorability, it would have to be some convulted anti-miracle for him to get the nomination (he may still go independent) and for Hillary to do something really stupid for him to win the election. He doesn't just have an upmountain battle, he has to kayak up a kilometer tall waterfall.

N... no, brutally failing PR and relations with other companies does, in fact, demonstrate in and of itself you're a pretty shitty businessperson. Especially on the upper end, being able to keep your stupidity between your ears instead of flailing out your mouth into everyone's face is pretty ruddy integral.

As long as you find someone else (commonly known as a sucker) to take the downside, it's successful business.  Which is IMHO a much bigger problem.

Kind of hard to do that when you said it in public. I have no idea who would be able to act as his surrogate when the campaigns get in gear, Charlie Sheen?

I suppose Charlie Sheen would be able to pull off dick moves like with revealing Graham's private phone number. BTW, it was also an incredibly risky move since it could have resulted in legal trouble. Then again, Graham doesn't want to get tied up in court either.

Edit: Of course though, having a surrogate also means having a defined platform and policies, which Trump doesn't have.
