I heard about that. From what I read, it's basically a giant scam.

Yup. Though apparently, despite being someone that more or less shits all over science in general, he's made some few comments supportive of further investment into space-related technologies, at least during some of his standard tirades against Obama. It's not entirely impossible he could offer some support for NASA and whatnot. Of course, as the article notes the slag's actions are counter to that, but hey.

Incredibly implausible isn't impossible.

E: Haha who is frumple kidding "fuck science" is basically a republican party platform ;_;

It's a mixed bag. On one hand, he is exactly the type of conservative to consider NASA a waste, a scam, an attack on the private sector, and other things, and also has a record of opposing NASA.

On the other hand, he is running for President, and cutting NASA will lead to attacks from others (even ones who would also cut NASA) for not keeping America on top (which is, in fact, his new job description). All the contenders for higher office will attempt to parlay their position for their own good (which means everything from attempting to appear moderate, to attempting to appear less moderate, to trying to rack up quick achievements), and anything that opens up a line of attack will be dialed back.

Of course, he could just not give a fuck. And there's a good chance of that, because his whole schtick has been "give no fucks" to what the Establishment thinks. Of course, that works in Texas, but not necessarily the other 49 republican parties (not to mention donors), so I'll make no predictions yet.

Ted Cruz for president? Pfft, no way, just no. We all know that the minute he takes office, he'll set the clock ticking for us defaulting on our debt.

Actually, no, that just might be what we need, or is it? I wish it didn't require potentially slamming our countries economy into the ground to get away from this far right leanage.

When's the last time that we had a truly horrible (in the incompetent way, not evil way) president? And I mean worse than Bush. Nixon? Though his deal was more that he was paranoid and what with the scandal. Going into the 19th century, the presidency had a whole lot less power than it does now, so, horrible might be kind of subjective......

This is the ameripol thread? I was a little confused by the change.

So not only Russia is hit by dropping prices of crude oil. Venezuela and its glorious socialist paradise is pretty affected too. This is why you never go full socialism.

Nothing wrong with going full socialism. Just don't base your entire economy on a single volatile energy source.

So, FJ have your replaced Aqizzar?

Nobody can ever replace Aqizzar.

[/me=scriver]dreams of the good old days[/me]

RIP Aqizzar.

Look who's back. But not, I fear, better than ever...

Why would anyone vote Rmoney? He was bad last time, and I bet he's even worse this time. The man proved time and again he had literally no spine, morals or even internal logical consistency. He's essentially the perfect corporate automaton.

President Scalia.

Are you implying Nixon was bad? I'm not even slightly conservative and I think he was the last tolerable Republican president we ever had. I mean the scandal thing is all he's remembered for, but we're still talking about the guy responsible for implementing the EPA, for instance.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

And prolonging the Vietnam War to make his opponent (who was leading the peace talks he sabotaged) look bad. He might have had a good idea or two, but he was definitely a bad president for that alone.

That's a fair point. So he's downgraded from tolerable to "still better than every Republican since", but that might be my furious hategrudge against Reagan speaking.
