I assume it was some good-natured ribbing over the foibles of the other's population. Bush rambling about English cooking, Blair joking about guns, that sort of thing.

my assumptions are not to be trusted

I'm betting on sordid, explicit love letters.

To be fair, they're doing that in the warmest part of Alaska, and they can only get in a single crop of cold-tolerant varieties of cold-tolerant crops with significantly more work than in a more temperate region.

large scale farming in Alaska? has i gotten that bad already?

http://www.npr.org/2015/11/01/453337333/rising-temperatures-kick-start-sub-arctic-farming-in-alaska

Well, the polar regions are affected the fastest. While it's certainly a silver lining and shows how complex the effects of climate change are, it's still one of those subtle (or not so subtle) signs that something is happening.

To be fair, they're doing that in the warmest part of Alaska, and they can only get in a single crop of cold-tolerant varieties of cold-tolerant crops with significantly more work than in a more temperate region.

How would cold tolerant varieties of cold tolerant crops be even more tolerant to the cold? lol

Unless we're talking about a variety that has been genetically engineered (the article doesn't state that though) or a crop variety that has been bred to be particularily cold tolerant, has it ever been successful before?

Exactly the way it sounds? A specific crop is cold tolerant, and is then selectively bred for further cold tolerance, producing a doubly tolerant strain.

I'd hesitate to call it 'large scale', but it's certainly interesting.

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/10/rnc-debate-hell-reince-priebus-215413

So... Republican candidates want fewer debates... and want them to take up less time... in order to get their message out better.

I fully understand the discontent with the last debate. I fully understand that debates aren't exactly the most fair platform for a dozen or more candidates to try to stand up there and fight for equal time with moderators who can't keep control of a room full of career egoists. But debates allow for an arena of discussion that isn't possible elsewhere with responses and rebukes in such a direct manner.

It's one thing to think that the debates are flawed and need change, but it also sounds a little like the debates are inconvenient and hurt their ability to control the narrative as with commercials, speeches and interviews and thus they want to avoid them as much as possible.

Only problem though is that if they want more time to speak and more equal time, it's going to make the debates longer. The real problem is that there are simply too many candidates on stage right now.

Seems like it's mainly that they want actual serious questions and competent moderators.

They should throw in more (some?) intermissions and probably some nice comfy chairs. These people are mostly kinda old...

Bah...the debates should become part of the vetting and winnowing process. We need a President who can stand up to Putin, not sit down in a comfy chair.

I say we make them run on treadmills and being flogged while being peppered with questions. And arrows.

I swear this all for the good of the country, and not my own personal desire to see them suffer. Plus, ratings!

They should break the debates into smaller subset of the fields, and then whoever wins a particular debate gets to move on to the next debate.
