Election Day is tomorrow! I know it's uncool to talk about the 2015 elections, but I hope you're voting if you've got something to vote on.
In Kentucky we're electing a new governor. One of the main issues this election is Obamacare, as the choice of governor will likely determine whether we remain one of the biggest success stories or if we become another state where the government sabotages the system to prove it won't work. And the two candidates are polling pretty evenly, so who knows what'll happen.
Here in Ohio we have to hope that the bill banning direct democracy doesn't pass.As an effort to block marijuana legalization, the state Congress put an amendment on the ballot allowing any ballot initiative that "unduly favors any particular individual or group" (as the legalization initiative restricts growth sites to a set initial number, and thus is labeled by opponents as a monopoly) to be summarily rejected by the officials in charge of accepting initiatives (who currently are responsible for verifying signatures and formalizing the ballot language). As nearly
any initiative can be said to unduly favor a particular group, this would mean that only initiatives that align with the ruling party's agendas would have any chance of going on the ballot. This is particularly important in a purple state like Ohio, which has a history of using ballot initiatives to tell elected officials to fuck off.
Anyone voting in Ohio should vote NO on issue 2 regardless of your position on marijuana legalization (which is controlled by issue 3).
