Let's Choose in Life of a Wizard!
« on: December 30, 2014, 09:35:48 am »

Hi everyone, this is Un67, a regular Bay12 lurker, bringing to you today a readthrough of the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game, Life of a Wizard! Life of a Wizard is one of several games hosted by the company, Choice of Games, which, unsurprisingly, takes you through the life of a wizard. The game takes place in a fairly standard fantasy setting, and there are quite a few possible outcomes based on the decisions you make, which in turn are based on the various statistics you develop as the game goes on. (So, for the powergamers out there, that's certainly something to pay attention to.)

So how will this readthrough work? I'm asking my fellow Bay12 denizens (that would be you all) to vote for whichever decisions you prefer to make, assuming that there are multiple choices available. There will be some points in the game where I'll condense this process a bit, but we'll get to that later. So for now, our first decision:

… Wizards. From the kindly old white-bearded casters wearing robes with stars and moons to the battle-hardened war-mage throwing fire balls at dragons. The royal family has always had one on hand: a wise diviner to lead the kingdom into peace or a dangerous conjurer to dominate all of the land under one rule. Or perhaps a divine healer? An alchemist? Or even a necromancer? The combinations are boundless. Let me tell you my story.

I wasn't always a wizened old wizard, you know. Wizards begin their lives the same as everyone else. I was born in a small village in the Kingdom of Daria. King Norbert and Queen Audrey reigned in the capital city of Tornassa, which was many miles away from my small village.

I remember the day I was born.

1) My parents were good people.
2) My parents didn't want me.

Seconded. A wizard with a terrible childhood is a wizard with ambition.

We are talking about a wizard

Being good loving people would probably have caused them to die when we are young.

Since some of the next few choices aren't too substantial, we'll get them taken care of together.

It was a terrible start for a baby…

1) ...boy.
2) ...girl.

They named me...

[YOUR CHOICE HERE]

I grew up in the village of Elmvale where nearly everyone was human, although there were a few exceptions. The entire kingdom of Daria was like that, besides the dwarves under the Grey Mountains, the elves in the Alderheart Forest, and the orcs in the wilderness to the west. Our kingdom was very racially tolerant, when I was young.

1) My parents and I were human.
2) My parents and I were elves.
3) My parents and I were dwarves.
4) My parents and I were halflings.
5) My parents and I were gnomes.
6) My parents and I were half-orcs.
7) My parents and I were half-elves.
8) My parents and I were pure blood orcs.
9) My parents and I were goblins.
10) My parents and I were trolls.

Why not try to make an elf that's not completely detestable?

Maximum tragedy! Because trolls are generally reviled and aren't known for magic, I'll vote for it.!

Ermh. Technically it is a game that already was created, butD&D and stuff like that are in both boards, so... maybe.

I could see the argument for this being in the other forum, but this is more along the lines of games like Alter Ego than suggestion games, so I figured it belonged here.

It was very difficult being a troll and growing up in a human village. My parents were just civilized enough to live in a human village, which was unheard of for our kind, but they were still aggressive and prone to anger. The other races considered us very frightening, but our green skin, long arms, and enormous height seemed normal to me. We were the only trolls I ever saw growing up. There were no other trolls living in any human cities that I knew of.
(Fighting +30, Body +20, Willpower -10, Personality -20, Healing +15)

My parents weren't poor, although they never bothered to ensure that my clothes were without holes or that my shoes fit. They fought a lot, and my father was often drunk. They never hit me, but I think that was because they knew that the temple priests would never allow such a thing. I always had the impression that they were waiting for me to become old enough to move out.

Even as a young child, I was drawn into the unknown. I remember my first magical experience, even though I was only five years old. I didn't know where my parents were, but I wandered off alone…

1) …into the forest.
2) …into a graveyard.
3) …into the temple.
4) …into the village witch's hut.
