I don't know if this thing has already been suggested before. If so, my bad.
It's just some small suggestions to make navigation through the interface a little easier.
Search FilteringIf you go to Legends mode you can filter names to quicky find those historical creatures you care about, like a certain Dragon or Beast you've killed or want to kill. This is done by pressing [ f ] an then typing the name of this creature, filtering out all the other creatures whose name doesn't match.
It would be great to apply this to other sections of the game, say:
- Unit List: You've got an announcement regarding certain dwarf and you want to see his/her information, but when you press [ u ] and go to the Unit List you find yourself with over 200 dwarves to search trough. If you could filter them by just pressing [ f ] and typing their name, it would a lot faster to find them.
- Trade Screen: finally, the caravan has arrived and you want to buy a certain something you need. However they've got like a million other things to sell that you don't even care about, and it would take a long long time to just search through that big list, at risk of wasting your time for nothing (that thing you want is not even there) or missing it (it is available to sell but you've missed it, thought is not there and gave in searching it). You could just press [ f ] and type the name of that thing you're looking for and make things faster.
This could be applied to a ton of other places, of course, but these are the examples I've thought.
NavigationYeah, "navigation" is kind of ambiguous, but basically this is when I've got a big list (probably, in my case is bigger than usual because I expand the DF window to occupy my whole screen) and I want to select something that is in the middle of it.
For example, I've got the Unit List and I want to select a dwarf (from now on, we'll call it item) in the middle of it, but I have to move the cursor one item at a time, until I finally get to said item. This problem applies too to other big screens, but the Unit List is the place where I always note this.
The solution/s would be the same as the ones used when designating a digging section or a place where to construct a building:
- [ Shift ] + [ Up ] or [ Shift ] + [ Down ] to move like ten items up or down, instead of only one item at a time.
- Select the item you want with the mouse.
These are only suggestions. As always, I'd like to hear your thoughts about this, if you agree if you don't.
Anyway, thanks for your time.
