Adventures of the 9th Legion (OOC)
« on: December 18, 2014, 03:00:15 pm »

IC GAME THREAD : http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=147387.0

Welcome to The Adventures of the 9th Royal Legion! (Interest check edition)
In this game, you will assume the roles of simple rank and file soldiers of the 9th Royal Legion.
The idea is, instead of being special snowflake brooding anti-heroes, the players are faceless/nameless canonfo-... soldiers with a slim chance of rising above that through sheer luck. While you will probably die a horrible death at the hands of the many enemies of the Kingdom, you may yet rise to lead the Legion and, eventually, retire as a wealthy general.
This RP plays similar to a boardgame, most of the playing revolves around combat, with periods of travel and decision making at different levels of the Legion.
While your input in the actual combat will be minimal, I encourage you to keep a diary/log for your character and fluff them up with interactions between different characters.
As members of the Legion you will encounter many scenarios, they will range from besieging cities, to open field combat, to smaller-scale operations.
Do your duty by the Kingdom and the Queen!

No I'm not psychic. I just know that this is dwarf fortress. and the most stupidly awesome and inexplicable thing is probably going to be the first thing to happen.

I would be interested.
Leader and Drag, what do those do exactly?

Hey, thanks for showing interest in this.
During combat, the players have personal battles in which only they take part, but there is also a bigger fight going on all around them.
Depending on how the players do in their own encounters, it will affect the overall battle happening around them.
So leader and drag both affect that.
By simply being in a battle you automatically affect it positively, if you survive, on top of the bonus from wining your fight, you will add another bonus point to that roll.
With drag, if you die, 2 points are deducted from the over all battle roll.
I hope you understand what I mean.

Also, I forgot to write it and have added it now, what weapon would you like on your soldier?
This is purely fluff-related.

This is confusing to my simple mind, therefore PTW.
I am not good at explaining things. :(

Why would someone choose x-bane skill (e.g., specific damage) or just the strong skill (universal damage increase)?

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.

Othil of Cabnul Fothorr:

2/1/3/1

Traits:
Observant
Sneak

Weak
Weak-Willed

A coward, recruited from a peasant village by lottery; he is quick in eye and foot, weak in arm, weaker in will and leads a life of lost luck (as the lottery can attest). His philosophy is crude and selfish, but he is not unkind. War will make a man of him...probably, a dead man.

Why would someone choose x-bane skill (e.g., specific damage) or just the strong skill (universal damage increase)?
You would take them together, so let's say you have strong and trollbane, you normally smash skulls and on top of that smash even more troll skulls.

You guys are all good. I'll begin working on your sheets.

I love the characters, but you need to change some stats, in the rules it says that you can only put your 5 stat points into ATK/DMG/HP.
Base armour remains 2 unless Armour or Unarmoured traits have been selected.
Change that and you are good to go.

Please, don't submit any more new applications. I want to run a test scenario to see what a good number of people would be.
Don't worry, places will open up.
