You can't armour her. I suggest this:
1: make sure temperature is on.
2: make sure you keep training it as much as possible.
3: chain it in a stone hallway, keeping a nest box inside the reach of it's chain.
If something gets in your fort, they'll have to answer to a dragon. This heavily depends on the age of your world,  though. If the world is less than 500, I'd say chain it. If 500+, I'd say war train it and attack it to your militia commander.

yea but dragons don't hesitate to use their fire breath on any enemies, regardless of whether your dwarves, your fortress rooms, or a heavily forested landscape is in the way.

So keep that in mind.

They are also kind of glass canons. But I don't see many enemies using shields. Personally, I'd keep the dragon behind a fortifications.

I normally keep my militia commander behind in battle, in the stone layers, so that's why I'm 100% safe in dragon use. If it's an old world, he's put in the military. Young world, last line of defence. I actually had a cave dragon and normal dragon tamed in one fort, actually. I kept those two in my main hallway, and sometimes let enemies get through, so they could have some fun. Dragons, while glassyer than hydras and bronze colossi, can still tank their way through most civilizations, so long as they get their fire out.

god hydras are brutal. I've lost way way more people to hydras than dragons. The dragon attack I got just set the forest ablaze and let to a string of cave-ins up top. (it also set several artifacts on fire that I had to put out because they burn eternally.)

The taming seems easy but also seems to wear off inside of a year.

World is 7 years old lol.

They will not attacked you whilst trained. To be fair, all you really need is a pasture to chuck it on, a chain would possibly help it use fire more.
So make a zone, set it to pen/pasture and animal training, optionally set a chain there, enjoy! Someone will go and train every 3 months or so. It's a time thing and not "what level of training it's at" For if it's trained to semi wild, it's almost certainly going to revert back before they speak to it again.

Although i don't think kills with dragon fire actually count to a dragons kills.
Seems weird but i very recently found one and sent my embark crew to attack it as i've never seen a dragon before the only kill which it got credit for was the one it clawed, the other 5 died to fire, 1 ran off.

Just curious, what's so different between old and young world when it comes to dragons? Is it just the age of that creature or....?

Dragons take 1000 years to grow to full size.

Unsure if worldgen dragons aren't full-sized already.

Easiest way i can think of is making a 1000 year old world and comparing what it says about them. Although i'm not sure it has words to say how strong a strong dragon is compared to a weak dragon, because they're ridiculous even whilst not being fully grown.

Kill them with a buff adventurer, retire him and put a fort on top, see if you can slab the dragon?

Kill the dragon in a fort and slab it?

Should show age in a slab I think.

Also: armor the dragon and ride it into battle is what I would say if it wasn't impossible.

As is, I'd say build a turret with fortifications and selectively raised/lowered bridges or something to allow it to target and breathe fire at stuff, bonus points if you can figure out how to put one of the pastured animal running from visible enemies switches on top of it to make it entirely automated!

A seven year old dragon is barely bigger than a dwarf. It'll be smaller than a giant tiger, maybe the strength of a black bear. I'd say just keep it for bragging rights, a few goblins cam kill it easily.

that's if it doesn't dragonfire all over the !!goblins!!.

But yes, a seven year old dragon should be pretty weak in melee. Even with them having Expert in most combat skills naturally.
