Expedition Leader/Mayor election?
« on: December 14, 2014, 11:28:13 pm »

Ok, so I'm coming back to DF, and I'm gonna start a fortress journal thing about my progress. Thing is, I'd like my expedition leaders/mayors to only be re-elected on death, rather than what I remember back in 2012 where they'd end up swapping out every other minute.

Any ideas how I might achieve this?

Have you tried assigning your own mayor instead of let them elect?
I don't know what do you mean by "swapping out every other minute".

Sorry, I should have been more clear: What I mean is when they're left to their own devices, in older versions you'd tend to get two dwarfs with good social skills who would be elected in turn every time the election comes up, so you'd have the mayor constantly changing back and forth. I was wondering if assigning the exp leader or mayor manually would stop elections taking place?

The elections won't stop. But I don't recall this happens that frequently.

Ok, well my general idea was to give them numerals such as Urist IV, but I want it to feel a bit more special, so I guess I'll reserve that treatment for hereditary nobles. Nobles properly pass on their position when they die now, don't they?

No they don't.  I don't recall DF has that feature yet.

Well I guess I'll see what happens. I thought I read that in a devlog ages ago, so I hope so. But it's not exactly important. Thanks for the info man!

Maybe you could burrow a mayor you like into a meeting hall with some of his constituents, close in to force them to socialize and force him to increase his skills?

And recruit his ravil, station him 24/7 in the graveyard so he can also socialize (with the dead)?

I had a new mayor elected with no friends.  On his relationship screen he had one pet and two deities that was it.  The out going mayor had pages of friends.  Thought it was odd.

I've had that happen, he was a new migrant who had just shown up to the fortress.

Usually though I end up with members of my militia passing the title around, which I find weird as they are never idle, they have a year round always active training schedule.
If their not fighting their training, if their not training their eating/sleeping/drinking.
When are they finding time to socialise?

Well in the end my exp leader got bitten by a werebeast and was locked away to rot away safely for his safety. But yeah what I'm going to do in light of information is just do what I mentioned with actual nobility instead, say with barons, or kings should I survive that far.  :P
