Haruka starts tapping on the desk again. "So, science and maths are your thing?"

He nods "Yeah. People tell me that I have a high reading level, but I don't enjoy it that much. I prefer math and science because I'm much better at them, and you always get a definite answer, not vague interpretations"

[Adragis]

"Reading's fun on its own! It's just all these mindless interpretations I can't stand. Maths and Science are fine by me, although I'm not 'really good' at them. I prefer Music." Haruka mimes playing a piano. "Much easier to convey emotion than text."

[Rhodus]

"Yes I agree. That's why I started to learn the piano. I've gotten a little out of practice lately, and it doesn't help that I did't have much experience in the first place. I should probably start doing it again though," he clenches and unclenches his right hand "It would probably help me recover some of my dexterity"

"Oh, nice! You should definitely start again. My logic is that if I ever end up homeless, I can find a keyboard somewhere and busk for money, so that's my answer to the 'what use is it?' question."

Ryu smiles, skimming over the text again "Yes I suppose that's a good justification"

Kei coughs discreetly.
"Um, it would be lovely if we could work all of that into the assignment too…"

"Oh! Sorry, I was a little distracted. Uhh..." Blushing furiously Haruka begins listening to the passage again, trying (and failing) to seem calm.

Ryu gives a noncommittal "hm" of acknowledgement, and continues to reread the passage, taking care to not miss anything.

Kyo, thoroughly useless at deciphering metaphor, has just been writing down what people have been suggesting into a list the whole time.
