Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster here.

I've started a play-through witch a single pick embark. I've only been playing DF for a year or so, not even close to an expert.
I didn't choose a terrifying biome (like more experienced players did), just savage.
Is there a good place to post a link in this forum to my playlist from youtube (if anyone interested to see me utterly fail?

The only thing about these challenges is, the initial stuff you bring isn't essential. So the terrifying biome is what makes it a problem.

I think something you might consider instead is embarking in a place with only saltwater, and trying to speed build a cistern before your dwarves die of thirst. (though they will drink from saltwater wells, I just don't know if it kills them or not.)

I haven't touched the evil areas yet. I did once when I played a few years ago, right after they came out. It wasn't that bad but there were a lot of nasty monsters that killed off all my dwarves before I could seal them inside. (plus I didn't actually seal myself inside, in the first place.)

Partly I'm scared of the husk clouds and the places where everything revives as a zombie. It's the same reason I set secrets to 0.

Well, to get to evil biome is my ultimate goal but I want to do that gradually .

Even with a tower nearby on thriving biome sometimes is difficult (and I don't wall in, or use extensive amount of cage traps).
On my last play through near tower, first (and last) siege was 3 necromancers and about 80 undead. Result was predictable :-|

One day I will put necro towers in my world and learn to fight them.

The one time I did I had handled all but I think one necro in the siege. But I couldn't find him anywhere and things kept resurrecting. From what I can tell, they have to be around for it to continue, it is either an AoE or a targeted spell. I felt like it was an AoE so I was perplexed as to why he remained hidden. I haven't faced them since.

There was no siege yet but I feel it's close. That would be the first test of my fortress.

Giant sperm whale breeding tanks. I'm the mountainhome now so I am going to lift all my edge bridges and shut out the outside world. I'm watching the dwarves place the cage traps now, and I have 3 different levers for each fish trap, I think I need to use dfhack to manage them.

I'm thinking to put some towers around map with patrols. That may help distract undead and let the other dwarfs escape.
