While the costs are only personal directly, they do end having costs to everyone in general in the form of medical costs and increased risk of accidents.

Also, your examples (except skydiving, which not many people do) are about necessary things, things that are difficult to avoid doing, and/or things with social pressure to do them. Marijuana is none of these.

Also, I'm curious - how do the numbers work out for damages/year for marijuana?
Are these your only rules for things that get legal passes? If not, please list the FULL set of things you deem there to be exceptions for up front, so that we all establish that they are actual, principled rules and you aren't just making up new rules to snipe down any counterexamples after the fact.

Then we can objectively start to find out how many things do or do not fall outside your rules and how much of a police state exactly you want to impose or not.

general issues associated with long-term stimulant use
Marijuana is a depressant, not a stimulant. People don't smoke and then go rave it up, they smoke and turn into couch potatoes for the evening.

Legalizing it makes it even more widespread.
That's not really possible, at least in the state of Washington. If anyone wanted to smoke marijuana before the law was changed, they'd just do it. It wasn't and isn't hard to get, and it's pretty cheap.

As a Washingtonian, I think the move for legalization was great. A lot of would-be-criminals are not criminals anymore, the state is making bank, and the marijuana that legal vendors sell is very well-regulated. I've heard that the marijuana industry in Washington is one of the most financially transparent industries in the country: everyone knows where their money and product has been, and where it's going.

I say legalize it- just keep it indoors. I already have to basically cross the street to avoid cigarette smokers- I'd prefer to do... well, less of it.

Yep, I'd definitely have a "No marijuana in public places" law outright...

Because as I said... it STINKS SOOO BAAAAADLY!!!

Unless everyone loves the smell of skunk and sweat

Or at the very least, only in consumables. The less noxious fumes, the better.

In Washington, I don't think you can smoke it in public places for the same reason you can't smoke cigarettes in public places. Smoke pollution and smell pollution.

Because as I said... it STINKS SOOO BAAAAADLY!!!

I don't like the smell, but it's not that bad, really.

Smells like burning dog crap. I guess it might depend on the strain, but on May 20th the public parks reek of that smell.

This smell complaint is already addressed by the same solutions to second hand smoke as an issue:
Only allow oral ingestion or vaporizers in public (it's been awhile, but IIRC, vapor doesn't smell like anything)

1. I work at a homeless shelter that has a drug room. It's one of the cleanest and most hygienic rooms I have ever seen in my life.

2. I go to college in Olympia. The entire CITY smells like marijuana.

It's not that bad.

That's because it's not a big deal. Nobody gets called out on jaywalking unless they cause an accident or they're wanted for sinister but unwarranted crimes.
