They completely overdid food, in both games. I think the idea was to give you plenty as you wander around and try to solve puzzles. But if you simply reload your game once you've found a solution, food quickly becomes a non-issue.

I barely had enough food in my GR 2 game due to having a farmer that had to eat basically everything in order to stay leveled with the rest of the party.  I can see where if you don't have one though you would have plenty.

I think you're talking about M&M X: Legacy here, right?

It's not a bad game (though I don't know if I'd really recommend it in circumstances other than 'So, you've finished all the other tile-based dungeon crawlers and you're still not satisfied?'), but you can't really mention it without warning the guy about the loading times. They're terrible. Not so long as to make the game unplayable, but long enough that you'll wince every time you reload, or even start the game up, until you eventually stop bothering to do so.

I've currently got a party ready to enter Montbard's cave, but I can't bear to load up the game again, half because of the loading times, and half because as Retropunch said, bad party combinations are an all-too-easy trap to fall in, and at least one of my party members (my Dwarven Crossbow Guy, as I believe the class is technically named) is completely useless. The other three are just mostly useless.

Eeep, I had forgotten about the tragically long loading times. I did enjoy it, but I just hated how linear it felt in terms of what you could fight next. It wasn't like in games where you might find an area a little bit too difficult for your party, it's literally having to take all the encounters in the correct order. This might be mitigated somewhat by a really good party, but I didn't feel mine was too awful.

Still, it's not too bad - it gets a lot of stuff right, and I believe it's been patched a few times since I last played, which might have balanced things out a bit.

Starvation can be alleviated by going back to the beginning are every once in a while since the turtles on the beach respawn every now and then. It's based on steps taken, I believe. In the short term you can also 'fish' by grabbing the fish swimming around under water. There's quite a bit of fish in the three river areas so that should last a while.

If you're at the meditation spire, then you can actually get out of the Ruins of Desarune via a secret.
Spoiler: hint (click to show/hide)
What part of the ruins are you stuck in? As in, what general area of the map? I might be able to give a hint as to what you need to do.

Sitting at work right now, I'll try to convey as much via memory.

After clearing the meditation spire, I was able to advance for quite a while, I reached a subarea where two green slimes are locked behind a grate in the wall (Initially I thought, the lever I found would open up that grate, but no luck.). After dicking around for a while there, getting secrets and opening the door back to the entrance (The thing you mentioned? There was metal armor behind it.) I found a key, and after backtracking to a room near the crystal I was able to open grate, behind that was the lever.

There is one area down there wher I havent been really thourough with my search. It's the one with the crabmonsters. I jsut cant defeat these things.

Firstly, no matter what I do, these things murder my front line in like 3 hits. My Battlemage sometimes dies outright from one slash. (These things sometimes clock over a 100 damage on each of my frontliner. I mean, COME ON!) I tried to kill the first one in the big hall via staying at range and killing it with ranged. But it's unbelievably tanky. I thought the Ice elementals were bad, but this is just ridicolous.  :P I'm not keen on wasting all my bullets and bombs, especially since around the corner, there seems to be another room with more of these pricks. I'm honestly unsure if I should even be here, but I tried other paths around the island, and it seems the ruins are the only place where I "could" potentially progress, if not for Wolfcrab Antifun down there.

That certainly sounds like the area with two levers to pull. The other one should be just on the other side of the room, behind a similar grate. I seem to remember that the crabs were in the south-east part of the area, just by the meditation spire, which is not required to proceed either. There should be an area to the north of the two levers with the second key. After a few ordeals, of course.

Also, that door to the entrance sounds like the one I meant. I think there was a pair of plate leggings behind it. If you're really annoyed with that part of the map you could go do something else as well.  The bog has less tanky enemies, but don't forget to bring your fire spell(s) for those pesky giant mosquitoes!

General update for those undecided: Having played more of Grimrock, I definitely feel it's overall a better game and a very solid FPRPG. If anyone felt that Grimrock 1 was too difficult/puzzley, this one has a much better difficulty curve, with a lot fewer brain teaser puzzles, and more sort of 'adventuring puzzles' (with obviously the right mix of brain teasers thrown in). There are only a few times when I've felt that things weren't fair (compared to a number of times with the first game), and there's a lot more exploring to do and loot to get.

Whilst it sounds like a small change, having charge up powers (double damage, leech life, ignore armour and so on) on most weapons really adds more tactics. You have to keep the button pressed for a second or two to charge it up, and in that time you could have probably done two or three normal hits/dodged out of the way.

My only dislike is that levelling up is still incredibly bland, but it does have the bonus of making it difficult to completely gimp your character. As a caveat to my last post about it running well on an old laptop, I do get quite a bit of slow down in some out door areas. It's about manageable, but definitely a bit sluggish when there are lots o' monsters around too.

Just for others who might waste their time - as mentioned, treasure hunting/digging seems to be pretty much only where you get told to go in notes. I've dug around a lot of areas which looked promising (dead ends, alcoves, places that look different) and haven't found anything. I imagine that at one point they were going to have lots more stuff hidden around, but probably (and rightly) felt that it would drive people mad having to dig everywhere.

I think the point of a farmer is to have a small group so he can eat most of the food and get crazy high level. If you get an alchemist and a farmer I'm pretty sure some of the herbs are edible and I think there's an infinite food farming place at some point. This is all secondhand knowledge however and I may be wrong but apparently someone managed to get an fifteenth level farmer in a fourth level party.
EDIT: Nevermind. Just saw the date.
