So they are finaly coming. I hope we'll be able to use them in adventure mode and especially that ennemies will get them in fortress mode. I can't wait to defend a siege from the top of my wall, fending off waves of globlins climbing them. What do you think?

Almost certainly not for this release, but there would have to be some distinction for free standing ladders, extension ladders, etc. Also, weight limits.

Fruit ladder != War ladder

Won't stop you from wielding one as a weapon though.

What if it'll be a ladder, actually?
Eh, I guess I need to stop judging things based on narrow-minded cultural assumptions.

maybe if we're lucky, step ladders can be used as more than cherry pickers. We can use it to engrave walls 2z lvls above

Goblins will come with stepladders to go over walls, forcing us undergrounds.

Better yet, give stepladders physics. so we can use them to crush any smartass goblin that tries to scale our walls.

I feel like ropes would be more in tune with the setting than stepladders (although how they would help pick fruit, beats me), but I'm too lazy to look up either how medieval gardeners handled tall trees or when the stepladder was invented.

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

We have to look forwards at its weaponization. How could we turn them into the most deadly thing ever?

Quote from: Wikipedia
John H. Balsley (May 29, 1823 – March 12, 1895) was a master carpenter and inventor, inventing a practical folding wooden stepladder and receiving the first U.S. patent issued for a safety stepladder.

To be fair, though, I don't see why medieval or ancient civilizations couldn't have invented stepladders. They're not a particularly complex invention, they just need someone to think them up.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Wonder if they could be permanently built or not (and then quickly removed) as a faster version of building an up/down staircase (to help dwarves down from ledges they've been trapped onto by other dwarves or bad construction decisions).. More than that, I wouldn't mind my dwarves trying to climb down a 1-z drop after being hopelessly trapped for a while :)

Any clue when patch will be released?

A few seconds after the patch comes out.  Give or take a few seconds.

I hope stepladders will be useful when fighting large monsters, so that you can reach their heads.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

You can already reach their heads now, try a dwarf vs a bronze colossus, the dwarf can hit the head despite the BC being something like 40 meters tall.
