Daemons (pronounced "day-muhns") are sapient souls that can split themselves themselves into more souls and can craft bodies with stored magical power.

Daemons reside in the as-of-yet non-existent Daemon Plane. A Daemon can split its soul any amount of times, though one soul - the anchor soul - always stays inside the Daemon Plane and each soul split takes away a fraction of the anchor's magical ability, thus evening out.

Each soul is capable of crafting their own body but the quality of the body is dependant of the soul's magical ability. Each of these souls are sapient and unique but are always beholden to the anchor soul.

The anchor soul - a Prime Daemon - can reabsorb these souls thus gaining their power. The sub-soul - a Lesser Daemon - cannot resist even if it has become more powerful than the Prime Daemon. Usually, this is done if the Lesser Daemon has screwed up big time as a form of ultimate punishment. Alternatively, the Prime Daemon can release the Lesser Daemon, thus severing the connection and turning the Lesser Daemon into a Prime Daemon. Usually, this is done if the Lesser Daemon has done something very deserving of reward.

Daemons can gain magical energy through practice and study, just like any other mortal race. However, their primary way of increasing their power is by getting people to take contracts. Someone can sacrifice part of their lifespan to a Prime's subordinate in exchange for services. The time sacrificed can be anywhere from days to years, depending on what's being asked of the Daemon and for how long the Daemon's services are hired for. Raw magical energy can be substituted instead, but this option is usually available only to high-level mages since they're the only ones who can afford the cost.

Someone can make a contract to reside permanently within someone on two conditions. The first is that the Daemon gets to feed on a little bit of the magic its host produces each day. The second is that the Daemon gets to eat the person's soul after they die. Soul Items will also be taken in this case which means that they have to agree to the contract as well. This type of contract cannot be taken by an immortal being. As part of the contract, if a mortal takes this deal and then gains immortality, their soul can immediately be eaten by the Daemon. Daemons reserve the right to NOT eat the person's soul if they (Dae.) don't want to.

On average, a Lesser Daemon will give its Prime 40% of the total magical energy it's gained from a contract. Primes will then take 10% of the total from the contract out of their own pocket and give it to Lord Vandire Lecta. Primes can take as much or as little as they want from their Lessers, but taking too much from a Lesser isn't seen favourably by other Daemons.

Daemons get more powerful the more magically able it is. The more magically able it is, the more it can upgrade its body to be better in non-magical areas.

Daemons are very honourable when it comes to keeping contracts but reserve the right to exit out of them if they've been Literal Genie'd or had something similarly dishonourable done to them in terms of the contract.

If a Daemon is killed, they'll respawn in the Daemon Plane with no magical ability lost. If a Lesser Daemon's soul is destroyed, all its magical energy will go to its Prime. Magical energy cannot be stolen from it as that energy is under heavy contract by the Prime. Very heavy contract. (Just who do you think you're dealing with here?) If a Prime's soul is destroyed, all its Lessers will become Primes and will inherit their former Prime's magical energy equally unless otherwise specified in its will.

All Daemons reserve the right to refuse to take contracts. Prices for select services and time served vary from Daemon to Daemon. Refunds are given at the Prime Daemon's disclosure. Primes and Lessers cannot offer contracts if the contents of the contracts go against the will of Lord Lecta. Children cannot enter contracts unless they consent and their life and health depends on it. All contracts are physically signed and copied in triplicate (whatever that means), with a copy of each contract sent to Malakath.

Maiming Moles (Also called Mine Moles or Tunnel Turtles) are turtle-like, subterranean reptiles the size of a dog. They have a thick shell made of copper, which seems to be covered in several small spikes. They live in tunnels they dig, which are about 2 feet beneath the surface. They are usually seen in packs of 4-8 members, but sometimes one of them wanders off or gets banished, and continues to live on its own.

Maiming Moles can sense when someone is walking over them, and when they feel that someone is close enough, they'll fire their spikes, which are connected to them by a wire-like muscle, at them. Getting hit by the spikes causes bleeding and an immense amount of pain. When Maiming Moles cause pain, they can magically absorb it. They'll store the liquid pain in a pouch under their tough shell. This liquid pain, also called "Elixer of Dolour", is worth a lot, because it heals wounds and cures diseases. But it is very hard to aqcuire, because you'll need to find a maiming mole, dodge the spikes they and their pack launch at you and crack open their shell. Once a Maiming Mole has gathered enough Elixer of Dolour, it'll split itself into two new Maiming moles after a short hibernation.
