Micro-moons: Just how micro are these micro-moons? Millionth of Luna's mass/diameter/voume?
Big enough that if they were all to go in between the main moon and the planet, the micromoons would be able to all "fit inside the moon", from a terrestrial's perspective.

The Ixen is a small, sapient, slug-like creatures that can enter a person's skull through the nose or ears and can attach themselves to their new hosts' brain. When an Ixen does so, it becomes linked to its host, seeing what it sees, hearing what it hears, etc. and gains access to all of its memories, though it is capable of not using this access. While an Ixen can hear its hosts thoughts (it can choose not to), its host cannot do the reverse (unless the Ixen allows it to), though it may feel its Ixen's emotions if they're strong enough. Ixens and their hosts are capable of talking to one-another. Sapients cannot be controlled by Ixens but sentients and non-Sentients can. An Ixen gains nutrients by absorbing them from their host, giving their host an increased appetite. Each host can only have one Ixen in them. Any more and the new Ixen will become anxious and instinctual, leading to it leaving the body.
An Ixen's soul is of above-average strength when compared to the average sapient. This strength makes it an adept magic-user relative to its body size, even allowing it to fly when without a host. This ability, when combined with the ability to fire magical "sonar" which senses souls, is used to find a new host which it will enter once its chosen host is asleep. Ixens aren't able to "see" beings with more than one soul in them such as Animal Spirits or other beings with Ixen hosts.
There are three ways an Ixen can die. The first is if it is physically destroyed, but considering its small size this is unlikely to happen unless the entire head it's residing in is destroyed. The second way an Ixen can die is if its host dies of old age. The third is if it's without a host for about 2 days. In the case where an Ixen's host dies for reasons other than old age, the Ixen will leave its dead host and find a new one.
A child born to someone that hosts an Ixen will be born with a new Ixen attached to their brain. This is how Ixens reproduce. The new Ixen and the child are two separate souls and two separate minds. As they very literally grow up together, however, they functionally think and act as one being. It's even possible that the Ixen or its host won't even know that the Ixen exists until one of them dies. When a member of an Ixenborn dies, the dead soul will have the option of merging with the living soul rather than reincarnating or going to an afterlife. (If they both die they also get the option to merge.) In the case of the host's death, the Ixen will gain awareness of what it is and its instincts will kick in, allowing it to leave its now dead host/body and find a new one.
Ixens are capable of combining their own soul's magic with their host, allowing them to be better at magic by combining their talents. Ixenborns are capable of doing this to some extent (which is how some Ixenborns learn about their nature) but not completely unless they become aware that it's two separate beings, learns to distinguish between its two souls, and then practice. Ixenborns will still remain of functionally one mind even if they become aware of their dual nature.
Due to the Ixen's soul, Ixenborns are likely to become devout to Lord Sephir Lecta.
