Infinifactory, new game from Zachtronics
« on: October 09, 2014, 05:39:02 pm »

New game from Zachtronics, makers of the excellent spacechem.

For now there is very little information, but it look like some factorio/minecraft/spacechem mashup.

Early access 2014, so look like it's already somewhat advanced in development.

Oh man oh man oh man.

I loved spacechem, but couldn't get into his last civil war/rts/card game thing he released last time.

This is totally going on the old wishlist.

Zachtronics is great, he made the Codex of Alchemical Engineering and some other really intense programming games in flash.  Didn't he make Infiniminer too?  He did make Infiniminer, as the linked page says.  I didn't play it much but it was a freeware 2-team, class-based competitive minecraft (not a mod, in fact it might have predated minecraft slightly?)  This is probably related.

I heard Zachatronics.

That's all I needed to hear.

Infiniminer definitely predates Minecraft.

I liked the steambots game, but then he made it a card game.

I liked Codex and Spacechem, I had trouble getting the steam game to work, I had no fucking idea at all how to even play the circuitry game.

Haha!  I did the first level of KOHCKPCKYTYPCKPKYCPT, and once I understood enough to do that level 2 was easy.

Now we're on number 3 and I'm back to what the fuck is even happening.

Posting to lower the general level of enthusiasm in the thread.

I'm kind of interested, I guess.

Now that I'm looking at it I think it's a paper tiger.  X is only 1 if everything else is, and Y is always 1 unless everything is 0.

That's all there is really.

I'm excited for it. Dude knows his audience, and it's rare to get puzzle games so genuinely mind shattering. There're very few games that get the same effect of spending hours on one level before finally figuring out where to start and eventually finishing it an hour later and making you hate every minute of it, but give the same euphoria on completion of one.

I dunno how much I like the first person style.

I just beat Ruckingenur 2.  In this moment I am euphoric.

It wasn't that hard.  I guess since it's more "black box" hardware than actual circuitry stuff you're only really concerned with actions and results which is more intuitive than Engineer of the People.  CE is a lot nastier with weird puzzles and limited information on what you're trying to do with them so it's harder to get started.

Pretty sure I gave up 6 or more hours of my life to beat his circuitry probe games.
The one(s?) that required actually writing code though, no thanks.
I gave it a shot once or twice, but the language it used was/is so foreign to me, and not interested in learning a full programming language just to play a game that wouldn't have lost anything other than the programming aspect if it used more GUI instead.

Thanks for posting this. I loved every single game he made so far, including the steam card thing.

AFAIK Infiniminer was in inspiration for minecraft.

EDIT: I loved the Codex (first one, didn't get into the second). The Russian circuit design one absolutely destroyed my brain, and I have never succeeded clearing even the first level.

Bureau of steam engineering is also worth checking out, though I always had the feeling it had potential missing.
