So... I think the liaison is trying to tell me something...
« on: September 29, 2014, 02:20:03 am »

Spoiler: Image (click to show/hide)
So, I haven't seen any goblins so far, not so much as a snatcher. The liaison last year gave me this earful of news. I imagine that this means the goblin horde is coming. Legends mode tells me that "The Ruthlessness of Bridging" secured tribute from the dwarves at Boltedhails. Can I expect them to stop at Boltedhailed, or not?

Known bug which currently allows goblins after world generation to steamroll any place they desire with 0 problems.
Its hopefully going to be fixed very soon.

The bug is because invaders always win an attack, which in and of itself is a workaround to the unfinished in-play off-site battles system. And because goblins are more aggressive than other races... yeah. That happens.

That makes sense, as I got another report this year which was basically the same, just with different invaders.

Hello, I am Nish CraftedPapers, king and ruler of this place, and these are my official, genuine documents proving my claims... ehm, ehm.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

Pretty sure the goblins aren't concerned with the legality of their actions :P.

I really hope that is fixed soon... excluding the tower, evil civ outnumber good civs around my place, and a substantial amount of my fortress's goods are for trading. Hopefully the civs the gobbos conquered where two of the many dwarf civs, or at least wouldn't impede my trading.

I'm hoping that los gobbos will come, I need goblinite to jumpstart my metal industry. I have galena and malachite, but that's it. I'm trying to import steel, pig iron, and regular iron from the Mountainhome, but this was the first year I got a caravan that had much. I have a legendary bonecrafter and a legendary gem cutter, so wealth isn't dependent on metals yet. This is a dwarven arcology project, so FPS is at a premium, so actually gobbos wouldn't be such a great idea until I finish a system to deal with all of the goblin clothing. I suppose I'll work it out. I got a few kobolds early on, but those were ambushers, not thieves. Very peculiar indeed.

Ask also for tools, instruments, trap components, weapons, flasks, toys, the ores they come from, armour, and cages. Anything metal.

I know. Anvils are probably the best thing to ask for after ores and bars, IMO, because they don't come with any quality modifiers.

Also ask for the raw stone to make iron and the lot; magnetite, etc..   its dirt cheap and as long as you have flux, it gets you started quick to build up iron stocks.

I've actually observed a mostly opposite situation, at least when it comes to sentient conflicts, very rarely are sites successfully taken. I can't post a screenshot (not on home computer) , but I've seen things like

Attackers: 164 Goblins, 7 Dwarves, 8 Elves, 11 Giant Toads, 6 Cave Dragons, 60 losses
Defenders: 5 Elves, 3 losses
Defender was victorious.

multiple times in Legends mode. I guess they only count it if they all die or something?

Conversely, many times FB are able to take over sites when logically they should lose due to weak materials, leading to exceptionally easy reclaims, free magma forges (and also some free metals, including aluminum and platinum sometimes) and just altogether an exploit-y sort of game. My current fort was taken over by a watery FB with only a poison spit attack. He was killed in about 10 seconds by a Competent Hammerdwarf.

We're talking about version 40.X, not 34.11.

The bug of invaders always winning only happens after initial world generation has ended, so before then it'll work just the same as before. As for what happened there, I have no idea how that's possible.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

If I recall correctly on a technicality,  "attacker always wins" isn't a bug. Toady purposely made it that way while bringing the world to life. Why? I don't think a reason was given.
