Throw your backpack or whatever you use to carry books at his face, kick him in the nuts while he's distracted.

If i manage to get my fifty pound back pack to hit him in the face i think the fight would be over at that point

Fifty pounds? Are you chiseling your notes onto clay tablets?

No, though that would be fun

Man, do you want a bad back when you're 25? Unless you're like 200+ pounds, carrying all that is not good for you.

Purely from an aestethic point of view, considering martial ARTS as improvised dance choreographies, my eyes are pleased most by fluency of most forms of kung-fu. But then, as it goes with art, it's just personal preference.

Speaking from personal experience, it's probably closer to 25lb. Unless he's using a hiking rucksack to carry it all around, anyway, since all the schoolbags I've ever seen tend to run out of space before you can get more than about twelve kilograms of paper in.

Also, kickboxing and throwing are probably the two most useful skills. It's always nice to know, when walking the streets, that if someone runs off with your stuff/towards you looking agressive you can huck a rock at their face and encourage them to change their life choices.

Even if you miss when throwing, if the other guy can see you have another rock in hand he will run for cover rather than continue advancing.

Anyway, a nifty trick for always having ammo on you without raising suspicion is buying yourself a Nokia 3310. It's heavy enough to do some serious damage, and it's durable enough to be thrown many times and still work (both as a missile and as a phone).

As stated in the weapons thread, I'm a lifetime martial artist, have been a student-teacher, referee, fight doc, and corner man.  I am decently qualified to talk martial arts, I like to think, although I am retired from fighting.

As far as disarms, disables, and grappling go, you can't go wrong with Aikido. Judo and Jiujutsu are also notable styles for grappling, and with the popularity of the UFC, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms have exploded in number. You just have to sit in on a couple of sessions to gauge quality. You don't want to end up in a McDojo.
