I mean, if you survive the end of your world, but your family, your friends, are dead, your city is gone, and your life's work is basically moot? Anyone could, and would, go crazy."

You slowly edge to the side of the cot, and, eventually, manage to stand, if only barely. As the soldier watches, you slowly begin to take steps, every muscle in your body aching, and finally manage to more or less regain your balance. After a few moments, you walk over to the locker room, and find Locker 3, opening it up. Inside, you find most of the items you were carrying when you got blown up.

FN Five-seveN: "Polymer handgun, 20-round mag, chambers FN 5.7x28mm. Weighs 744 grams loaded, made in Belgium. Decent stopping power. I've had this beauty for years, she's never failed me."
4 Box Magazines: "20 round magazines of 5.7x28mm. Only manufactured in Belgium...that could become a problem."
Gut Knife: "Steel knife with a gut hook. Effective, efficient, silent."
Undamaged S10 Respirator: "I got one of these when I joined the Regiment. Beautiful mask, reliable. These were supposed to be replaced this year..."
Shredded Kevlar Vest: "This thing...probably saved my life. It's useless now, torn to pieces. It's barely even still holding together."
Scorched Overalls: "White and blue uniform. Got scorched bad when the bomb went off. Still wearable, but not exactly comfortable."
Zippo lighter: "Who the hell stole my cigs?"
Bottle of scotch: "...I wasn't carrying a bottle of scotch when I went in there, and if the rescue team stole my cigarettes, they probably wouldn't give me a bottle of scotch in exchange."

As you look around in the locker, the soldier walks in behind you, responding to your question.

"Maybe someone prayed for you, or Lady Luck likes you. I don't know, you should be dead, but you aren't. We all have stories like that, and it's usually best just to thank your lucky stars and move on."

+1 for later, but for now, "Alrighty then, how soon can I get back out there? There must be constant search and rescue ops, why don't I join one of those?" Start suiting up while waiting for the response.

You quickly suit up. It feels good to be back in your old gear, no matter how damaged it may be.

"Search and rescue was dialed back a bit after the initial week. Didn't want any personnel dying, and it was considered unlikely anyone was still out there. Should be a patrol going out in an hour, though. You can sign up if you want, you seem to be in good enough condition."
