Tom: Who Dares Wins

Tom

Top Secret Location, Home of The Regiment.

"We've got a bomb threat, Harz power plant. Some Balkans are threatening to blow the place sky high, and spread fallout all over Europe, if their demands aren't met."

"Demands?"

"The EU hands over a dozen bombs."

"Looks like we've got a job, then."

12 Hours Later, Harz, Germany. Harz Nuclear Power Plant.

Two men in blue and white enter the underground fuel rod room, cautious. A brute weapon, a block of Semtex, is stuck to the fuel rod storage.

Beep...beep...beep.

The two men clear the room, and one of them approaches the block of Semtex. He pulls out a pair of wire cutters, and looks around the block for a wire, something that is there to trigger the bomb. The other man, wielding an M4, watches his back.

The man at the bomb finally finds the wires, and quietly exclaims "Yes!" His comrade turns around, just as a terrorist peeks his head out of the control room. The terrorist fires a 4-round burst into the man's back, and the soldier at the bomb takes cover. The soldier and the terrorist both quietly stay in cover, planning their next moves. The soldier moves first, ducking into a nearby hallway and flanking the terrorist. However, the terrorist hears his footsteps, and fires a few rounds at the stairway the soldier is taking. The soldier takes a burst in the chest, but manages to stay standing and fire three shots from his pistol into the terrorist's head. The terrorist falls down, dead, and the soldier slowly, slowly walks back to the bomb. He briefly glances at his comrade, but it only takes a single glance to confirm that he's dead. The bomb starts ticking even faster, and the soldier finds the wires again, holding his cutters.

"Oh, bloody hell. Cut the wrong wire, burn Europe."

Your vision snaps into view. You're a member of the SAS, codename Tom, who is about to make the biggest choice of his life. Which wire? Red, or green?

Can't we just cut them both at the same time?

Red is the prettiest wire, for if we don't cut it there will be fire.

"I'd cut both wires, but I can't. Considering what I know about terrorists, this bomb is probably fail-deadly, not fail-safe, so if I cut the wrong wire, it'll go off instantly. Then again, there's no guarantee either wire would disarm it."

How does that work? Cutting both wires would result in an inability to send electrical current to the payload, thereby disarming it regardless of bomb tricks. Even if there are a bunch of wires connecting, though I doubt that because only two wires are evident, just cut out the area around the wires.

"I don't have time to argue this, voice in my head, but here.

Imagine you've got a bomb, with a timer. Now, you could do the normal thing, and make the timer detonate the bomb. Or, you could be smart, and make the timer keep the bomb from exploding. Thus, if the timer is removed, or stopped, the bomb explodes, along with if it just reaches 0. Just like that, you can build a bomb so if the circuit is opened, the bomb detonates. Now then, I could move the bomb, if I hadn't just been shot. Honestly, cutting a wire is our best shot, and if we cut both, one of them is probably going to blow us all up."

+1
As Plastic explosives are very stable and insensitive we can simply set fire to the bomb, or failing that try to remove the detonators.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Agreed.

Are you sure you know how plastic explosives work, Tom?

"I don't have something to start a fire with, and I'm not exactly in the condition to be removing detonators."

Tom gestures to his wounds, which include a vest shredded by rifle fire, scorched overalls, and a few knife marks in the side, and one deep one on the back.

"Barely even made it here, even. It's cut a wire or sit by the bomb and die."

(Don't want to railroad, but seriously gais, make a choice please.

EDIT: My first game it took 3 days to get this many posts. Do you guys think I'm a half decent GM, or is it just that it sounds interesting?)
