I was looking for a spot to make my fortress in a world I had just created when I saw this:

broken image is broken , it was supposed to be a forest surrounded by an icy sea very close to a goblin fort.

Now, I'm not the best or most experienced DF player (only ran like 2 forts before this), but I think I know enough about it to determine that this could be very "fun", and I want to make a community fort out of it. there is probably going to be a lot of death, failure, facepalms, and me asking how the F*ck to do things, but it will be GLORIOUS!

Well, your description says your a novice gem and wood cutter, but you have a bigger job then that, as you will see in the update I'm making.

19th of granite, 95.

When His Majesty said he wanted me to oversee this expedition into the wilderness, I didn't think he meant to the goblin-infested north with a bunch of buffoons... oh well, lets see if we can salvage this situation. I order our miner, Than, to start digging down a staircase, as there is no real form of elevation in site. then I had are woodcutter to, well, cut wood.


WOAH, THIS DID NOT JUST HAPPEN!!! everything seemed to be going well, until I was informed of the following message via carrier raven:

Words do not describe the shock of the message, but I decide to put aside the message and continue onwards. you may be my king, but until we finish construction of the fortress, I am the boss here. I order the construction of what will hopefully be a farm, as well as His Majesty Kalidan's throne room. then I realize that we are going to need a new expedition leader, as the old one is now His Majesty. after much consideration, I decided that our woodcutter was the best choice. I walked over to him and began to tell him of the news:

"Hey, woodcutter! get over here!"
"Well sir, my name is-"
"I don't care what your name is, because your the expedition leader now!"
"Really? Well that's Joyous news! WHOOO-"
"GET BACK TO WORK, WOODCUTTER!"


A snowstorm started brewing, so I orderd everyone to stay inside for a while. however, I fear for the safety of the cart...

6th of slate.

It's been some time since my last entry, but in that time, the mining was going much to slow for my pace, so I had Taupe, our stoneworker, help out Than a bit. it seems She is actually pretty good at it. Meanwhile, I have ordered the construction of beds and doors so we can finally sleep properly.I have gotten the farm running

10th

I could swear His Majesty Kaladin is against me. he has made mandates for the creation of Gauntlets, the materials of which I do not have, and has banned the creation of any picks. this worries me, as we will not be able to create them in time, and we don't have the proper prisons...

15th

I have gotten the farm running, finally, and we have created the dormitories and His Majesty's bedroom. things are actually looking up.


29th

By Armok! the snow is thawing! the weather is getting warmer, the trees leaves are growing and... it's actually quite beautiful. first to call me an Elf-lover gets a free hammer to the skull. I have the horses moved up to the Forrest to graze.

(Wow, as soon as I decided to make this a community fort I suddenly thought of all the things instead of playing DF)

I don't think so, but in DF, anything can be achieved with Magma, Rube Goldberg devices, and killing elves.

Fixing that. Also, the ground is damp so I cant get stone. How can I fix this?

If you're digging in an aquifer,don't mess with it.if you're digging under a river or a lake,just keep designating the ground for digging.
