Ah so he's an Eskimo tornado chaser! And he placated a roaring tornado threatening his position by 'feeding' it the sausage! As we all know, sausage is formed by voodoo meat magic such that, when thrown into the tornado, the infused centrifugal forces imbedded in the meat canceled out the spin of the deadly tornado. Thusly, sausage saved his life

...probably not, but it's going to bug me until I try for it.  He's a skier who got caught in an avalanche.  The rescue dog followed the smell of the sausage to where he was buried, which let the rescue team dig him out.

I literally just read a story on an S&R in an avalanche not even an hour before (no sausage involved, though), so it was only a coincidence that it was at the forefront of my mind.  Unfortunately, I don't have a riddle lined up right now; someone else can give it a shot if they have one.

Here's the picture: a dozen people around a card table, each of them dead. One has a relaxed expression, the other's faces are distorted in a horrible grimace. What happened here?
