The Russian ambassador to Turkey got assassinated.

I suspect this is the beginning of what Obama meant by getting mired into the whole thing.

Interesting link: recent photos of Aleppo's Old Town, shot by a local.
It'll surely take many years to rebuild the whole place after the war is over.  :(

Mosul is probably not doing too well either, considering it.

After this ISIS thing is 'over'.  Kurds are gonna be in a good position to get what they want and that has the potential to extend the clusterfuck, cause someone else is gonna lose out in that deal.

They're already in a position to do so, more or less. Really depends on how things go in the rest of Iraq and whether the government manages to unite Iraqis or not.

Dont know if people are interested, but this is really good place to get a lot of raw  information about syria and iraq war as they happen. Especially for non political things how war is going (always select new posts so the things dont get filtered out with popular ones).

Its probably one of rare places where there are even people that openly support isis (but they are in much smaller numbers this days). Its heavily modded for any insult, posts that have links to gory content and similar.

I like this map. even if it wont contain the best commentaries, it's still nice to get a bigger picture.

Apparently the ISIS have captured a Leopard from Turkish army. Allegedly the same tank a day before that, still in Turkish hands. It's most likely linked with this particular clash.

Also on this video from ISIS itself (trigger warning: contains ISIS and also some blood) it looks like they've actually captured two Leopard tanks in that place. Also, that orange camo looks completely ridiculous in the snow.

Depends on how competent they are and whatever air power can play in the area is.

Modern armor isn't a tool for the incompetent.

Egypt withdraw resolution on Israeli settlement after Trump calls Sisi.

Trump seems incredibly active for a president-elect, that's for sure.
