Daesh/Daash/Daish which is basically ISIL. it sounds something between the three.

Dawla - state
Al islamiya (i probably written it wrong) - the islamic
Iraq (The e comes from the difference in pronouncing that E/A/I in english. its not the letter i=EYE, in arabic its Ayn, something closer to how in hebrew we say the letter Ayin in some cases (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayin) which is pronounced in this case AEI. like al qaeda, in arabic/hebrew its actually pronounced more closer to Al qA-Ei-da. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxXxKjcmfmc)
SHam - Levant

Its a name a lot of arabs gives them, but that's not how they actually call themselves though. (They consider it an insult, more of a reason to use it :P)

The airstrikes can't completely stop them, but what they can do is take out key positions and force them to go back being an urban, civilian camouflaged organization which while might still be very bad for the Iraqis and Syrian, it actually means they will have harder time to advance to new territories. the airstrikes can also cut away their oil revenue supplies.

How much coordination is there with the Kurds for these air strikes? I figure that with heavy air support they could push back ISIS, at least out of Kurdistan.

The best answer I could give would be "some". ISIS are not overly established in Iraqi Kurdistan (having been pushed back early in the air campaign), and getting the Kurds to push into Iraq "proper" would be a stretch - they probably have no interest in expending men and materiel on such an endeavour. There are undoubtedly SAS/SEAL teams on the ground laser designating targets, but I don't see ISIS as an enemy easy to really hurt from the air - an enemy that can melt into the desert is harder to his than a tank column. Now in Syria, things are a bit different - ISIS currently presents more of a threat to Kurds on the Syrian side of the border where the situation is much more fluid/confused - no ground forces are likely to come to the aid of the Kurds there (Turkish tanks are apparently massed on high ground near a key battleground but have not and will not cross into Syria, nor help the Kurds, despite saying all the right things) unlike in Iraq (where the government sees them as an ally against IS, though probably one of convenience), as they are yet another disparate faction fighting Assad, Islamic groups and various rebels. I can honestly see ISIS making a move on Turkey over the next few days or weeks, forcing NATO's hand one way or the other.

I am not sure. from what turkish hostages reported, once the commanders heard the hostages they got were turkish their treatment became extremely good, they were even allowed to smoke which is forbidden in their calpihate area. they either fear the turkish army or simply fear turkey closing down their oil smuggling operation.

This thread is a great read, PTW.

they were even allowed to smoke which is forbidden in their calpihate area.

They decided to allow it to gain popularity amongst the populace.

I've yet to see any indication of Turkey seeing ISIS as a bigger threat than the Kurds, so I really doubt that.

Also, Burningpet, can you explain where the 5 fits in in Daisha? I've seen a lot of people including that in the name.

What disgusts me just as much as the beheading videos, are the americans bombing oil refineries. I can remember the Gulf War, and how devastating that was for the environment / ecosystem. They should bomb women and children, not oil installations damnit.

These oil refineries are probably more dangerous when running than when being burnt down. Isis is not OSHA compliant.

Its impossible to calculate their GDP per Capita without knowing the exact population numbers they got under their control, but i suspect its in the 10 lowest countries.

i doubt they really care about the per capita as long as isis itself has the bulk of it, bp

I don't know about 5 but people do add a 3 in the middle of Daish like Da3ish and the 3 is added because it looks like the letter ع in داعش ISIS's name in arabic, all this is pretty easy to google.

I might be misremembering the number, although I don't think so.

That does make sense though.

Has anyone heard news about Haftar and Operation Dignity in Libya? I just skimmed the Wikipedia pages, but there's little up-to-date stuff there.
