"yeah first outing, it certainly... wasn't what i expected.

Is that Grant over there? He seems excited."

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

"Oh, yes... very interesting. Do you want a cape name or a civilian name?"

"What did you expect, if you don't mind me asking?" Lilah says, glancing in the direction of the approaching Grant. "And yeah, that does seem to be him. Glad he's not dead, at least."

"Oh, yes... very interesting. Do you want a cape name or a civilian name?"

"Whichever is catchier," Ilo merely replies.

"Something a bit less extreme. Maybe a fight or two but not a mini rapture."

"Cape fights tend to get very hairy unless there's a very large power difference, I've noticed. Especially when it's three capes and up. Especially when nobody knows what they're really doing. Might not want to seek out fights, is all I'm saying. At least I have the privilege of immortality," she tells you as Grant runs up, tipping his hat while panting. He looks to be in somewhat bad shape, all in all. His eyes are wild, and you suspect he's in a bit of pain.

"You alright?" he asks Lilah.

"Oh, mostly. Nothing I can't fix," she shrugs. "You're free to go."

"Oh," Grant nods.

"You've definitely earned your hazard pay, though. Good work, man," Lilah smiles at him a tad weakly.

"Very well. Goodbye, miss," he bows, then, after steadying himself and catching his breath, starts to walk off.

"See you later," Lilah mutters.

"Just call me Carrie for now I guess."

"Okay then. Carrie," Ilo says. "Carrie. Reasonably catchy."

"Anyway, what now? I'm kind of tired. Let's go our separate ways?" One Eighty shrugs.

"Don't see why not," he replies. Both Ilo and One Eighty shrug and start to walk off together.

"Agreed, See you around. With that finally settled, Carrie heads home.

You bid them farewell and head home. It is a walk that manages to be uneventful right up until the moment you notice that fuckwit who spat in your hair and killed your mom is at the front door talking to one of those PRT spooks.

You ponder whether this scenario was expected enough to warrant not sighing.

"Fair enough i suppose." replies Steven.

"So, where do we go from here?"

Lilah rubs her forehead as she looks at you.

"Well, Steven, I'm not sure how best to put this, but you should probably realize that, casual chatter and short space of shared experience aside, we're not friends. I'm trying to be nice to you because you seem pretty aimless and confused. You went to what would have been a pretty uneventful and maybe sort of fun Project Ed event, made a mess, caused a scene, then things spiraled out of control, a lot of people probably died, and you don't have much of a cover identity. So that puts any work relationship between us strictly in the 'maybe' category as well. I cramp my own style enough as it is, if you know what I mean."

"Then again, I don't really know you aside from all I've mentioned, either, so who knows? Maybe give me a number and I'll call you sometime?"

"H-hey dad... I... I know th-this probably i-i-isn't what you w-were... were expecting b-but... I c-can explain... h-hopefully..." Selina slowly gets more sad looking before tears brim in her eyes and she rushes forward to hug her father tightly, tears flowing for the first time since the basement...

Whether through pure reptilian instinct at another's approach, dumbfounded fear, overwhelmed confusion or some other motive entirely, your father's immediate reaction to your half-coherent approach is to, well, take a small, quick retreating step, half-raising his arms defensively. Judging from the look on his face as the two of you pause in the middle of your advance and his recoiling, there probably has not been a single instance where this man has regretted his gut instinct so quickly and sharply.

Rita visibly cringes at this, it seems.

"Oh, joy.  Have you come here to kill my father as well?" she practically spits the words in a mock cheerful tone as she approaches the house.

"Well thats certainly a better deal than breaking my arm in return." replies Steven.
Pausing to think for a few moments Steven then recites his mobile number for her.

"Oh, joy.  Have you come here to kill my father as well?" she practically spits the words in a mock cheerful tone as she approaches the house.

He looks at you for a second. Then he snaps into a dynamic pose, winking and making finger guns with both hands at you before promptly walking off without another word.

"Back already?" the guy at the door says, looking you over. "We didn't even get to start a manhunt yet. By the way, kid, you look like shit. What happened to you?"

You think you heard your father emit a sigh of relief somewhere inside the house when you spoke. A quick check with your powers confirms that he's in the house, genuinely relieved. In there is also a dark-skinned woman speaking on the phone and a beefy guy out back. All three of the strangers have got PRT uniforms. You don't remember them from your time in custody, but that was some time ago, you guess, and maybe memorizing several schoolbooks did take much longer subjectively than one would suspect.

"Well thats certainly a better deal than breaking my arm in return." replies Steven.
Pausing to think for a few moments Steven then recites his mobile number for her.

Lilah blinks at you.

"Yeah. I'm clearly going to remember that."

She checks her pockets, both with the same arm, which looks a bit awkward.

"No phone, either. Eh, fuck it. I'll find you by name. You work anywhere in particular? Go to any bars? Have any particular S&M dungeons I could find you at on Saturdays?"

Selina stops, standing there in shock as her face paled, losing all color at the horror plain in her father's face. Small tears streamed down her face as she tried to process how to handle this... how could she fix this at all!?

"...I ...C-call the p-p-police dad... I... Th-this m-m-may..." She couldn't get it out, not sure how to explain this and the clear sudden rejection hitting her hard as she shook with emotional turmoil. She looked ready to fall over too...

"...I ...C-call the p-p-police dad... I... Th-this m-m-may..." She couldn't get it out, not sure how to explain this and the clear sudden rejection hitting her hard as she shook with emotional turmoil. She looked ready to fall over too...

Your dad just hugs you and holds you close.

"I'm sorry, so sorry..." he mumbles, his voice trembling. He's done a bad thing here, he seems to very clearly realize. And as he puts his arms around you, you realize you feel slick all over, and quite warm in this cool weather. Your dad doesn't quite seem to notice.

"Don't, uh, call the police, though," Rita advises uncomfortably. "I get the feeling that whatever's happened here might be a little too, um, well, how best to say this... confusing to actually report?"

Your dad gives her a look. You don't see it, but you feel his body shifting as his attention is redirected to her.

"Wh-who are you?" he asks. The world's slipping out from under his feet.

"Me? I'm, uh, a friend of Selina's?" Rita suggests.

Yet another earth-shattering revelation. You think you feel your father tense up a little. His suspicion is piqued. Of all the things you'd think would make him suspect you're not for real, having friends is what's probably the biggest red flag. At least the Selina he already has is staying entirely consistent with what he knows of her personality.
