((Alright, so... I have problems with this. Especially since the vertebrae that are most directly in tune with the legs are lower on the spine and not in the neck. So that isn't likely unless you feel like making Carrie quadrapeligic. In which case I would like the opportunity to redo my last action or have Carrie stand up.

Also, her power makes her immune to bullets and her skin and bones rigid enough to have no issues snapping out of handcuffs, but doesn't keep her body rigid enough to avoid neck strain? Especially when she is reactivating her power at the speed of thought.

Also, the way you described it sounds like Carrie wasn't waist deep in dirt and was instead trying to hold the whole of her weight on her head instead of with her currently digging arms.  Which is also largely difficult to imagine.

Also, mildly upset that you would do that.))

Suspicious of the self styled cowboy steven engages him in a glaring contest and tries to mentally determine what his possible purpose here could be. Is he paying attention to the exchange between carrie and one eighty? Does he show any signs of intimidation or surprise by the recent displays of power? Does he have a scheming expression?

You look at the cowboy. He meets your gaze. You commence the glaring, and he gladly obliges. You're not sure whether it's the mustache, the worldly wisdom of his eyes or the slight squint, but you find you can't outglare him one bit. He doesn't even seem to blink at all, man.

In addition, before glaring back at you, he did seem to look at what Carrie and One Eighty were doing, and did not seem ruffled one single bit at the way One Eighty flipped her. And his expression, with narrowed eyes and leathery features looking to be a mix of mean and thoughtful, is clearly one you would associate with a man with a plan. And he's here with a considerably younger girl who doesn't appear to particularly enjoy his company, which you think may be an attempt at misdirection on the man's part.

Selina frowns, feeling a little sad now.

"O-oh… I… I guess y-your right… th-though I always thought the n-new girl would… would tr-try and help her b-be her." Selina seems worried now… was that the kind of story she had written? She'd have to read them again to make sure but...

"Think about whether the new girl would help the shy girl outgrow their own potential relationship. I think that'd shed light on the possible motivations a little more. If she would, then that seems like a case of slightly creepy altruism or pity, which is a bit demeaning to the shy girl. And if she wouldn't, then that seems to me like the new girl treating the shy girl like you would a car or a house, like a fixer-upper, you know, and then relying on her feelings of thankfulness to keep her close and devoted in a way you can get people in need to do," she says, finishing her sandwich.

Kyle sighs.
"You're not very useful at finding jobs narrating voice in my head."
Kyle decides to see if the library is open.

The library is quite open, and also rather nearby, and seemingly undergoing some form of inventory, as when you wander in, the employees look frazzled, stressed and tasked with carrying lots of books around.

Hm. Maybe one of these people needs someone to be stabbed and is willing to pay? That librarian lady looks kind of shady, you must admit.

((Alright, so... I have problems with this. Especially since the vertebrae that are most directly in tune with the legs are lower on the spine and not in the neck. (Sensible objections indeed, and a bit of research failure on my part as well. So.

First off, it's a partial injury with incomplete loss of function, and no loss of sensation all around. Her legs are severely affected, the rest of the bodily regions much less so. Loss of dexterity in the fingers, impaired movement of the abdomen, all that is still there, just not as noticeable in light of the legs not working. The spine is not properly broken, since, as you've pointed out, her powers did protect her to a certain point (they don't quite make her immune to bullets typically, only letting grazing shots at a favorable angle bounce off - she'd still have a very bad time if somebody shot her straight in the eye, the center of the abdomen or the throat or with an armor piercing bullet just about anywhere), and the handcuff thing was largely me not having figured out the exact level of power Carrie would have and instead going for the cool expository moment, which I did admittedly fuck up on in a big way, since you ended up basing a lot of your further assumptions on that one moment.

Second, she was about chest-deep in the dirt, head down, arms projecting horizontally forward - the same posture she held when she was on her hands and knees as a result of the fall, but rotated 90 degrees around the center of mass, which if I remember it right would move up along the torso when the limbs are moved closer together.

Thirdly, she was wiggling her head as per the programmed movement, probably in a slightly inadvisable manner while her body was wiggling as well, and as the dirt around her shoulders loosened and her arms came free, a lot of the stress was then put on her head, where the dirt is more densely packed and with a greater amount of weight put on it, and thus a little more difficult to wiggle out of.

Fourthly, that was the worst critical failure my current rolling system would allow (1 for action, 1 for severity, though it's on a d6), and so I assumed that whatever could go wrong in the worst possible way (bear in mind that highly sensitive internal components can be traumatized with seemingly minimal application of force if said force is very unfortunately applied) with the aforementioned movements certainly did, and spinal trauma seemed the most in line with what could go wrong in a situation like this, and incomplete spinal trauma due to the exact wrong set of movements seemed the most plausible worst thing, and I surmise that a person without heightened durability in that situation might lose the ability to move their arms, breathe and independently function.

Fifthly, even if the reactivation of powers happens at the speed of thought, that still leaves Carrie with a short, yet significant latency period, especially given the critical failure. She, unlike Alex, doesn't think any faster without the application of her power.

But, if all that does sound unfair, and I suppose I'd understand if it does, I can offer you a rewind to the point before the wiggling plan was tried as recompense for misleading you about Carrie's powers in the very beginning and being generally shit at explaining things or being consistent.)

Head voice, how about we stop talking about the stabbing. It's getting kind of weird and it's obvious we can do that after we ask if they need help with the inventory.
That being said Kyle walks over to the library lady.
"Excuse me? Do you need any help?"

The librarian lady, about 40 give or take a few years and about a full head shorter than you, looks upon you with a measure of hopefulness through her rather thick glasses.

"Maybe. Why do you ask?" she asks in a very subdued tone.

Continuing to glare at the man in an attempt to outlast him if he cant outglare him Steven mentally analyzes the younger girls presence from memory without actually breaking eye contact with the creepy cowboy.

How old is she? Did her presence next to him seem like shes being forced to stay with him? Did she display any signs of rufflement at one eighty using powers to discipline a child?

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Selina only finished about half of her own sandwich, appetite a little lost as she mulled over how her 'story' had been deconstructed... Would she really be a pity project? A fixer-upper who clung to a source of affection? Was she doing that even now with everyone who had helped her now? All she could do was stare at her food, feeling the fool yet again as her mood turned sad; Feeling as if a small part of her was joining in the old mockings of her quiet demeanor and fear.

((That is quite possibly the most measured response that I could have hoped for.  It also helps to know that you are, in fact, rolling and not just saying "nope" when my plans fail, which seems to happen a lot.  However, I will be taking the reset.  Permanent, debilitating damage probably shouldn't be caused by something as mundane as digging yourself out of a hole in the ground, its just not good storytelling.))

Carrie ponders her next move for a while, a vision of accidentally breaking her own neck while trying to escape lending her caution, she quietly observes her position, wondering about what happened to the dirt she supplanted and considering her options.

Eventually, she decides to dig a little deeper, empowering her arms to push as much dirt away from her body as possible and then down so that she has room to move, hopefully, she can dig deep and wide enough that she can contort herself into a standing position and dig up from there, she keeps her eyes closed for this and limits her breathing until such time as she has better air.

((If that isn't feasible let me know and I will come up with another way to get out.))

Kyle shrugs.
"Well, I don't have anything better to do so I thought I might be able to help."

"Kind of you to offer," the librarian says, not quite smiling, but raising her eyebrows with slight relief. "If you want to help, go tell Jones over there," she points at a tall young curly-haired woman in a band t-shirt and jeans carrying a stack of books down one of the library aisles, "that you're here to help with the lifting. You got any friends, maybe? Drinks are definitely on me if you can put any kind of dent in today's work. Been at this for the whole of yesterday already, and I'm just about ready to shoot myself in the face."

Continuing to glare at the man in an attempt to outlast him if he cant outglare him Steven mentally analyzes the younger girls presence from memory without actually breaking eye contact with the creepy cowboy.

It's kind of hard recalling something you didn't pay much attention to, you realize, but she seemed on the young side, which your peripheral vision seems to confirm, and not particularly at ease, though you don't quite recall many behavior details.

Also, the best you can do against the cowboy is keep pace with him, outglaring is something you're pretty sure is not going to happen. Dude's got more than a decade of experience on you at the very least. You do notice him blink once, however - it's almost imperceptible, but he does it. You may have a potential in, you suspect.

Selina only finished about half of her own sandwich, appetite a little lost as she mulled over how her 'story' had been deconstructed... Would she really be a pity project? All she could do was stare at her food, feeling the fool yet again as her mood turned sad; Feeling as if a small part of her was joining in the old mockings of her quiet demeanor and fear.

Rita frowns subtly as she notices you going entirely quiet.

"The point is, if a relationship gets started with the explicit goal of changing the other person to your whims, that's something that can only be done deceptively or in bad faith. A girl can't rely on saviors like that to address her personal flaws, because odds are these people are either manipulative assholes or... well, manipulative assholes who think they're doing a good thing, which may be even worse, come to think of it."

((If that isn't feasible let me know and I will come up with another way to get out.))

(Well, it wouldn't be permanent damage, either - it would heal over the course of time, but you're in the right here nevertheless, I would say.)

It's time to harness your inner sandworm, you think as you pull your head back toward your shoulders, then through the use of your power immediately free your arms and start digging yourself deeper. In the first couple of seconds you don't get very far, since digging down with just your hands is a little difficult, but you do get a full foot down, pushing the dirt aside with enhanced strength. Bet One Eighty isn't expecting this, at the very least. You then utilize your power to further shift the earth around, totally disappearing into the ground before quickly creating a bit of wiggle room for yourself by closing the hole above you - a small, lightless chamber exists for the better part of a second as you orient your head upward, which is a tad uncomfortable to do, and then activate your power for the final time, where the thing you do is push upward, the earth giving way as you burst from the ground, which, you are slightly amused to note, spooks One Eighty for but a moment, causing her to jump back. You land softly on your feet, letting your knees absorb the minor impact.

Needless to say, that makes you feel like a bit of a badass, even if you are now absolutely covered in dirt. And even if the very first thing One Eighty does is flip you horizontally once again, though you are even quicker to react this time than the previous one, activating your power immediately and, after creating a brief checklist of the optimal movements to make to probably land you as safely as possible, making sure to land in a crouch, then standing up once more, giving One Eight an unimpressed, mildly amused look, which is probably your default expression by now.

"How dramatic," observes Ilo. "Girl fight?"

"God, I hope so," says One Eighty. "Only reason I signed up for security!"

Deciding on another tack Steven walks directly over to the man without breaking eye contact and stops only a few inches from his face where he continues to glare at the man from point blank range.

"Heck no, I don't gamble unless my victory is almost certain. And I don't want to risk a two on one, so I'm going home." with that she turns around and begins to walk away, all the while trying to memorize any identifying features of the two, so she could recognize them in civilian clothes.
