Go find someone to challenge. It will probably be best if we get some practice before entering a tournament, and we need some sort of reputation before anyone will challenge us.

+1 Here.

Also, scout out the area around the tomb. Find out what sort of mortals you have as neighbors, and what sort of beings they worship.

Truth be told you don't so much as know how deep beneath the earth you are sealed, and find it prudent to begin to ascertain your surroundings. Though your perception is limited, and you are still groggy from casting off the embrace of death, you cast out your conciousness near your body.
You are... very deep beneath the earth. Your tomb is seated just barely above the great magma sea, which has breached your prison and granted you life, though also helped to further seal you within it. Though... you do find a cavern system, closer to you than it is to the surface. Great underground lakes dominate the large portion of it, where populations of blind fish live. You have yet to find anything of note there, but you could focus more effort on the search.
Far far directly above you, on the surface, a crude civilisation has formed, thriving on conquest and erecting monuments to a variety of gods. The mortals there pay homage to an animal pantheon of warriors and predators, and take slaves of nearby weaker civilisations and tribes.

Since your mind is already cast in that direction, you seek potential opponents that call the mortal world home. Those beings that dwell in this world tend to be weaker than those who find or make their own homes in the cosmos.
This part of the world is still rich in the powers of the old world, and you find a great variety of noteworthy figures, including some ideal prey.
The King of this civilisation of conquerors is a demigod, the "Son of the Jaguar". A small dying tribe pays homage to a spirit, who protects them from the wrath of their neighbors. A great serpent lays coiled around a mountain, and amuses itself by challenging mortals with riddles, and eating them when they fail to answer. A local warrior has taken to travelling the area seeking battle, wanting to find his death, apparently unaware that he is the son of a Sea Titan. A great and powerful golem who's master is long dead has become self-aware, and is seeking an answer for the reason of it's existence. An evil Shaman has farmed the souls of locals for a century, seeking a way to extend his life until the end of time.

Let's meet that golem. We are kindred souls without purpose, but together we will make our own!

Yay golem pet!

Appear in the Pantheon of the Gods, use our avatars appearance to our advantage and claim to be one of their gods. Not sure if this is a good idea.

Try to calculate the Demigod King's lifespan. If he has a natural expiration date, challenge him to a game. The Stakes: The loser serves the winner until either party dies.

Even if we lose, we will have gained a cause, and a master who, if he desires a more powerful servant, may make our regeneration and recuperation one of his interests.

Actually I change my vote to this. If things really don't go well can we attempt to posses his body?

You do not currently possess such an ability, though it is theoretically possible. However, attempting to force your conciousness into a body that already has a divine agency within it could be considered reckless.

Currently, you are quite weak, a tiny fragment of your former might. Focusing your power into an equally weakened Avatar is about all you can do. If you were to wager part of your essence in a Great Game it could destroy you, depending on how high the stakes are. No, you will need assistance, either won or offered, though you hope it shall be the former.

Summoning your will, you do what you can in crafting and projecting your Avatar. At the foot of the great monument where your target lives a red ribbon of smoke begins to weave a shape into being. It stretches your capabilities, but the Avatar stands at twelve feet tall, red skinned and proportioned like a particularly well muscled human, but with the head of a lion. In it's naked glory it brings the nearby humans to frightened awe, you would snort if you could, of course the petty mortals would be impressed by such a meagre display of power. Some cower, some flee. A handful, dressed in the skins of slain wild-cats and bearing spears approach you, shouting as they do.

Fortunatly mortal language is an easy enough thing to grasp, and with all the authority you can muster you direct the mortal warriors to lead you to their King. The mortals bicker a bit amongst themselves before agreeing to escort you.

...

It is not long before you are granted an audience with the demigod, and it is clear that he is no mortal. He is easily eight feet tall, with clawed hands and thick speckled skin that one could almost call hide. At his side is an axe of steel, a metal you are sure is unheard of in this part of the world. He is attended by dozens of slaves and servants, human and animal-men both. Undeniable is the aura of divine power he exudes, he is not a true god yet, but the seed of godhood is within him. At your approach there is no hint of fear in his eyes, only curiosity. After a brief introduction, you learn his name is Tlacelel, King of the Ozelatl, and you introduce yourself as the Titan Marok.

With that aside, you explain that you are hear to challenge him to a Great Game, the stakes being the Vassalage of whoever loses, until the death of either party. The Jaguar king seems to chew it over for a time, before responding. "Those stakes are quite high, and not quite to my liking. I intend to become a God, so what if i win? Then i will have a servant who's best interests lie in preventing me from achieving godhood until i die. No... i think i have better stakes. If i win, you will be my servant until either i die or achieve godhood. If you win, i will be your servant until one of us dies, or i achieve godhood. However, if i achieve godhood as your servant, i would be required to grant you a divine boon. I think these terms are fair, do you?"

Agree to the terms, with a caveat: If we lose, we are exempt from servitude if either of us die.  We don't want to be wandering around as a bound spirit for eternity.
