Do you still get the readlink error or something else? Are you running "./dfhack", not ". dfhack"?
You can download the contents of the repo through git or with the "Download ZIP" option, but that will only give you text/config files.

i've deleted the folder, extracted the latest 042... package,
then i've downloaded the whole zip from github, unpacked it and overwritten the content of the 042... folder

this is the outcome:

Recently had to switch to linux and it's been enough of a pain trying to figure that all out.

Trying to X11 forward over SSH -- keep getting these errors in the terminal and the game refuses to start.

Running TWBT, latest version of the pack, and I've installed all dependencies in the OP and all links. Any clue what'd be wrong with it? Using Debian Jessie and Xming.

Try downloading the latest xdg-terminal script from the GitHub repo and replacing your local copy with it.
Incidentally, what shell does /bin/sh point to? Dash?

A little help please? LNP starts up just fine but when I click on play dwarf fortress I get:

On Linux, it is necessary to use a secondary script to open a completely independent console when you're using DFHack.

This script (xdg-terminal) is detecting your system as using XFCE; if you're using Lubuntu, I'm guessing you're actually using LXDE.

The simplest way to force the right command is to go to File > Configure terminal and type the correct command. If you are indeed using LXDE, you should type "lxterminal -e" (without the quotes).

Yankee14 pointed out that the keybinding files contained in this pack are outdated and don't contain some newer keybindings introduced in recent versions of DF. To fix this, you can download a .zip (or .tar.gz) file containing a fixed "keybinds" folder and copy that over the corresponding folder in your copy of the pack.

I have a problem while trying to start dfhack - I get: "Not found: /data/art/Phoebus_16x16.png". So I have searched for a bit and found out that on newer linux versions i need to preload zlib so adding export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libz.so.1 to ./df made it able to start but after editing dfhack with this line i still get this "Not found" error. When dfhack is starting I get this as output:

I have no idea why export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libz.so.1 works with ./df but won't work with ./dfhack

Try using PRELOAD_LIB instead (before the line that runs distro_fixes.sh).
Also, is that a 32-bit distro?

Could you try replacing distro_fixes.sh with this and see if it works without that change? (I just changed it to locate zlib on non-64-bit platforms.)
